Chapter 3

What has happened to them?
Lost...
As they drive out of town, Duncan tries to communicate with his new nurse in the back seat. Meanwhile, Heather notices Andre looking over at her repeatedly. Although he is trying to be discrete, she notices him staring at her cleavage. When she finally catches his eye, he smiles at her. She smiles back, flattered by the attention but a little afraid.
"Don't worry, we take care of you here," Andre says quietly and pats her leg. Heather wonders if that was a reassurance or threat.
After a couple of hours of driving, the sun is setting. Duncan leans forward from the back seat. "Driver, are we going to Tuonga?"
"Yes, Tuonga," Andre confirms.
"I don't recall this being the way," Duncan adds.
"Yes, sir. But the highway is not safe now. Rebels." he says simply.
"Rebels?"
"Yes, sir, impossible. You will be killed. She will be ****," Andre says casually, pointing to his daughter seated next to him. "The blonde, too."
"Pardon me?" Duncan says, shocked.
"****, sir. Pretty white girl? Definitely will be ****. Maybe also killed. Or maybe made slaves. It is that way in Africa."
Heather turned to look at her father, panic in her eyes. "Daddy?" she pled tearfully.
"Is okay, this way is okay," Andre says. But when he reaches a fork in the road, he seems to consider one route but selects the other.
The foreigners feel increasingly uneasy as the light disappears from the sky. Soon it is pitch black. Occasionally, they see small gangs of men or boys on the side of the road appear as the headlights illuminate the road ahead.
Where does Andre take them?
