Chapter 23 by brevdravis brevdravis

Wait, where was Helen?

Live Fire Exercise (THE END) (BAD END)

I have to admit that my brain was so full of thoughts of sapphic sex as I stepped off the porch, heading for the car, that I walked right into the path of a flying arrow.

The sharp metal tore into my neck, and a sharp pain went through my head as I realized that I never should have picked them up... they were there... to kill me... and steal...

"OH SHIT! BRENT! NO!!!!!" The scream of Helen's voice was tight in my ears as I collapsed. I couldn't breathe... I couldn't... think...

My vision clouded, and for a moment I felt my head tilted at a strange angle as the rest of my body lay on the damp, pine needle encrusted floor. Then a snap, and nothing...

"Wait, you DIED? No... no, you can't have died, because then you wouldn't be telling the story." The old guy at the bar chuckled at me as I poured him another shot.

"Hey, not my fault, thought you weren't paying attention. " I shrugged my shoulder, taking his twenty and replacing it with a ten and six ones. "You tell the story enough, you embellish a little."

"So what actually happened with Helen?" The stripper next to the old guy asked, her eyes on me again. Couldn't really remember her name, except I knew she went under the name "Destiny" and was no child.

"Bitch shot me with an arrow, and said it was an accident. Had to go the hospital, still got the scar." I pointed to a nasty gash on the side of my collarbone which only required a momentary pull of the shirt to show. "Anyway, Kaila decides that once visiting hours are over, she's gonna just go back to the cabin with the girls, and she ends up leaving me for them. And that's why, nothing personal sweetheart, I don't hook up with bi girls."

I smiled at Destiny again, hoping this time she'd get the hint. Ever since I'd officially declared myself off the market, it seemed like every single gal on the planet had decided to prove me wrong. Was a lot easier to handle when you didn't make a big deal about it. Just politely rebuff every single conversation about my relationship status, and people finally got the hint.

"So... yeah, ended up deciding that San Fran and I just weren't friends anymore. Jumped on the first freighter that would have me, because it wasn't like I had anywhere in particular to be, and ended up here after picking another couple random boats."

"And that's it. Just... bartender at a tiki strip joint."

"I like the view."
