Chapter 11

Shower and Sleep!
Lights out
Not fifteen minutes later, Robin stepped into the small upstairs shower. It wasn't much, but this apartment worked. Just had to make certain the rules were followed. Everybody always checked with EVERYBODY before they used the bathroom. Nobody needed to be barging in, and that had been the rule for a long time, enforced with a lock. It wasn't that Robin was paranoid, but once you have child protective services watching you, you never get them off your back. Even if you catch a social worker red handed committing a crime.
He grimly reflected on that fact as he rinsed himself off. No, it wasn't time to be thinking about past mistakes. Things were actually going good now. Things were turning around. The girls were almost done with their education, and once they were done he wouldn't need to keep a three bedroom apartment. Although Robin did someday dream about the possibility of having more kids, he just hadn't met the right woman to have them with yet. Maybe Lauren... maybe. It would be a challenge, but he did love her. The thought of eighteen more years of this though... especially when he'd already done it, and knew what he was getting into.
It didn't help that Lauren knew about his fantasies, he thought, as the water coursed over him, washing away the sweat and grime. Dammit, Robin noted, he was going to have another bruise on his upper left arm in addition to the usual fabric lines across the shoulder. Well, it was his own damn fault, and he knew what he was getting into there too. Still did it, because it was fun.
He chuckled a little at that thought, thinking about his girlfriend Lauren and how good it was when she spent the night. She had a drawer now. That made it almost official as far as he was concerned. There had been other women, of course. Ever since the girls finally were old enough to understand that Mom wasn't coming back they hadn't begrudged him the occasional date. Recently though, they had their own interests, and Robin had been tempted to return to the ways of his youth.
His mind floated over the little redhead next door. She was... dammit... shouldn't be even THINKING about that. He shook his head furiously, shutting off the water and grabbing for a towel. He rubbed at his head furiously. Should not be thinking about girls your daughters' age. You even think about it, next thing you know some guy is inviting you to sit down and ask you what you're doing here today...
He pulled his boxers on, noting that there was no light outside in the hall, or coming from his girl's rooms. Looked like they were already asleep. With a final sigh he shut off the light, and crossed the three steps to his own room, entering quietly. His bed dominated one side of the room, and he hadn't bothered making it after the night before. Casting about for a blanket, he grabbed it and pulled it about himself. He realized for a moment that he hadn't gotten quite dry enough, and the boxers weren't exactly comfortable to wear any more.
With a sigh, he shucked them, and pulled the blanket about himself in the dark room.
