Lie

“Of course not.” Never had I felt such weight from three small words. I hated lying to Liam. It didn’t feel right. The problem with lying was it was an art. The more you practiced, the easier and more advanced you became. It already felt like I was living a lie most of the time. What was one more to the pile?

It still didn’t make me feel any better about it.

“I mean, I don’t care one way or the other.”

I grinned. “Almost sounds like you want me to be. Are you?”

He gave me a playful shrug. “You know I’m not.”

“Do I? Do I really?”

Laughing we headed to class. Despite the lighthearted conversation, I couldn’t shake the heavy weight on my shoulders.
