Chapter 4 by WinstonSmith WinstonSmith

Do you let the scouts go?

Let the scouts go

Survival requires taking some modicum of risk. You know this well, which is why you tell your partner to deliver your command to the scouts. However, she returns to you with unfortunate news. The leader of the scouts, a young man named Brett Lancaster, refuses to send his men out of the village's walls without proper protection. He has heard of the nomadic tribes surrounding your village and worries that one of these tribes might attack his group.

Scouts usually wear light clothing and carry small weapons--knives, mostly--so that they can move quickly. If you give them heavier gear, then it will take them longer to scout the area. This will require them to leave with more food. On the other hand, Brett refuses to let his men go without the necessary protection.

Your partner tells you that she might be able to persuade Brett. She noticed how he had looked at her when she delivered your order to him. This doesn't surprise you. Your partner is easily one of the prettiest women in the village. Still, you have never used your partner as a bargaining tool before. Moreover, Brett should follow your orders--you are the leader of the village. If he refuses to comply, then you could always replace him.

What do you do?
