Let Andre be your guide
March 13, 2009?
I am being guided through a maze of passages by Andre. Everything in this temple seems to be dark and creepy, the few candles in here just serve to make even creepier shadows. A really comfortable atmosphere (Yeah, right!)...
"We have arrived, great one."
There's something that's really been getting on your nerves for a while, since it's a dream, I had decided to ignore it but... There's no sign of him stopping to call me that.
"Umm, I'm really happy I'm that important but could you please call be by my name?"
"As you wish, John"
I step through the heavy wooden doors. Inside, there is a room which looks like no other in here. It's like an oasis in the desert, or rather, a rainforest in the middle of the sahara. Everything is extremely colorful, just like a kid's room. It's as if someone had taken buckets of paint, and neon paint while we're at it, and thrown them at the walls and even at the ceiling. Not to mention, there were a few... questionable objects which... sort of hovered in the middle of the room. It looked like a drop of oil in water, constantly trying to get together and form a perfect circle. It had the brightest, most annoying, eye-harmful pink I had ever seen. As if the sun itself had been placed in front of a pair of bright pink (yet cheap) sunglasses.
"Hey Andre, I know you said I had to kill some sort of demon, is that it? That's the creepiest thing I've ever seen in my entire life!"
"No," Andre slowly shook his head, as if your answer had offended him in some way, "That is the ultimate weapon of this place, or at least, the one with the knowledge to teach it. I shall leave you right now, I am sure you are full of questions, but she is likely to answer them, as well as teaching you how to use the great weapon." Before you can ask anything, he leaves the room, closing the wooden doors.
~~~~~~~o~~~~~
After wondering what I had to do, the... creature suddenly started to change. Just like when you play with a great lump of clay. It started to stretch, with four thin cylinders came out of it, two at the bottom and two at each side, while a big sphere formed on top and two smaller spheres just a bit above the middle, it gained a women-like resemblance. A moment later, however, as if the effort had been too much for it, it abandoned it's futile effort and lost it's form, just like oil, everything was pulled towards the center, and it silently recovered it's initial form… it was now just a great blob of, well, something, which somehow hovered in midair.
She spoke in a great musical voice. There was only (two, if you count the second vaguer reason) way to know it was indeed a female, which is... One, the priest had said so, and two, I doubt any guy would actually be that color.
"I am sorry for this appearance, human, the passing of time seems to have made me weak."
"Eh? No, don't worry about it. Rather... Umm... What are you?"
"I am the last creation of my owner. For some, he was the hero, for others, like myself, the ‘Imaginator’. I was once a human, although not a complete human. Your race would probably call me something nearer to a demon. My owner died 2 years after creating me, and although I was a mighty being, right now I am sure you humans would have been likely to destroy me in this weak state. In honor to the hero, they have kept me alive for all of these years. Quite a foolish thing if you ask me, I'm treated better right now than when the hero was alive." If it had been a human, I am 100% sure that the last sentence was actually an insult towards mankind in general, but it’s hard to detect these kind of things when the other party speaks so graciously and is unable to use body language.
"You say you were created by the hero, but how exactly did he do that? I don't even think it's possible to create someone else like that?"
"You are correct, human. It indeed is impossible to create something out of nothingness. My owner, however, had a power which no one else since that time has been able to use. For those 2 years I spent with him, he taught me how to teach others how to use it. Although I, myself, or even the priests are not able to use it."
"What do you mean? What is that power?" I was about to let the blob talk, when I suddenly remembered. Why did everyone in this place use a weird title on me? First it was “great one” and now it is “human”, names are made for a reason. “I have a name, it is John. Would you mind calling me that instead of ‘human’?”
"It is really of no importance, but I will comply. John, I see you know nothing. I was sure you would have been able to use it, after all, you come from the same place as my old master. Called the power, 'imagination'."
Wow! That sounded cheap. Imagination? Yeah sure! The day pigs are able to fly. Wait a second, the same place? "I still have some questions left. First of all, what can I call you? I'm tired of calling you 'you'. And what do you mean, from the same place as your old master? How could he ever use imagination to create a human, or semi-human at least? It's impossible! I mean, it's quite possible to create humans in fantasies and... Oh never mind, I almost forgot this is a dream. I wonder why I'm discussing it like this, so seriously..."
"You may call me Lucy, although I do not think the name my old master gave me really fits this appearance. As for your other questions. This is not a dream. This is an alternate dimension which was created at the same time as yours. My master gave me a message for the next hero, it might explain many things to you, although no one, not even I, has been able to find out the true meaning of it.”
After saying that, Lucy started to deform, and like a great drop of water, something fell from her, it was not a purple oily substance as I expected, but a small bit of crumpled white paper. I fixed it up, and it read.
'Hiya! I know this might sound weird but, this dimension is like a computer backup of our own. It was created at the same time as ours, however, there was a small error when it passed through the year 0. It's like the Y2K bug at our place. So time was stopped and everything was rewritten, and just like a faulty backup, information was lost. No one over here seems to be able to use their imaginations. I've told my cute assistant over here to help you learn some of the stuff I discovered. One last thing, if you really arrived, then be careful. A powerful demon has probably been freed so you'll have to stop him to return home. Then again, you're free to **** your power and do anything you want, if you really want to do so, you only need to capture the demon and let him live in prison. You'll know what I mean when I tell you to **** the power, I did it myself. wink wink Be careful with it though, and always remember, imagination doesn't give immortality.’
The melodious voice continued when she was sure that I had finished, "We have spent the last hundred years trying to decipher this message, but it has been proved to be impossible." Lucy's voice sounded incredibly perplexed, the first time the tone changed since I started talking to her.
"I see, well, I get it, most of it at least, and that's what's important. So will you tell me what's that imagination thing? It sounds like something I need to know." I sincerely wonder how I could **** the power. After all, when someone tells someone else to do or not do something, it just makes me want to do it even more, especially i f it’s something as neat as ‘abusing my power’.
Lucy's color changed, it became a bit duller, before turning into the annoying pink again. My guess is that it’s like the equivalent of a sigh, in blob-body-language. "This should be quite easy for you if you are really the hero. You have to think of something and it will turn into reality. For example, imagine a pig. As detailed as you can, and on top of the blue spot in front of you."
It sounds stupid, in fact, it IS stupid. But, oh well, what else can I do? I start to think about the pig on top of that blue paint.
<A round pink body, the snout, dark eyes that look like marbles. A curly little tail...>
The air in front of me suddenly starts to change. It grew thicker. Something started materializing. A dull pink goo started to appear as if it were soaking up the space in the atmosphere. Little by little, after a decent size had been accomplished, it started to mold itself into the shape of a pig. First the overall shape, then the details. Again, it looked as if someone had played with a lump of clay, except that this time, a pig actually appeared. The surprise made me freeze in place.
Lucy interrupted me, distracting me from the pig, "Now imagine a pair of wings on him, white angel-like wings."
As if that would work! It's probably a setup. That's something impossible! Heh, I'll just imagine him with black wings, that way I can prove it isn't real. A smirk started to form on my face.
<Black wings, like a crow. With the wind slightly shuffling the feathers. They reflect the light just like a peacock's, as a final detail, they were somehow place on top of a pig.>
This time, a black mass started to form, it was as if a black blanket coated the pig. Then it spread throughout the air, like oil on water. Details started to form, with every feather being molded until it started to look like a crows’. At last, the wings were finished.
The pig was apparently quite happy with the wings, since it started to squeak. After flapping them a few times, it rose in the air and started to glide around the room... Now this is something I thought I'd never see! A flying pig...
Lucy then praised me, "Well done, as you can see, the power of your ‘imagination’ is able to create almost anything. There are few exceptions. the only things you can't create are animals or humans. As a general rule, nothing with the ability of free thought can be created. Other than that, any plant or object will appear out of thin air if you wish it."
"Then what about this pig? It's an animal right?" After asking this question, I start feeling quite stupid, who DOESN’T know a pig is an animal?
"You are correct. You are not normally able to create animals, however, the previous Imaginator, also called the hero, made this room so that your imagination was able to create things easier, also, he left behind some of his magic so that I could have an easier time explaining. There is one exception which allows you to create other living beings. If you find some raw power, with a form as myself, you can alter it, and give it the form you choose, but it is not possible to create an animal out of nothing. The wings, are a separate matter, you would be able to add them to yourself if you really wanted to once outside, as they do not make up a living being. You will also be able to create tools, weapons or food. You should also be careful, since once you leave this place, it will be harder to create things."
This really sounded complex. Lucy sure sure is longwinded. Couldn't she just have said that I could create anything I wanted as long as I could think it up as long as it wasn’t living? The animal condition is pretty weird hough, guess I’ll only be able to create objects most of the time. Oh well.
"So, is there anything else I should know Lucy?"
"Actually, there is one last thing. Check your pocket."
I stick a hand in my pocket. There is a small book in there, so I take it out. There are some letters written on it.
English homework - Diary
Property of: John Doe
Eh? What is my diary doing here? Is it a plague? Of all the things I could have brought, it had to be this?! I open it, some of the blank pages are now full.
Lucy continued her explanation, "As you can see, this is an object that the previous Imaginator had. It automatically records everything that happens to you, from your thoughts and feelings to the technique used to create any particular item. The date added will be the date you are currently aware of. Since you probably lost your sense of time, it will leave the date in blank until you are able to correctly link this world’s date with your own. Also, I believe you have had enough training already. You are ready to go outside. I recommend that you go to the nearest city and gather information about the demon... Or you can try and give me some of your power and make me into a human, it should be quite easy since all you need to do with me is return me to my old shape, as I said before, it should be quite easy to reshape me. If you do so, you would be my new master and I will be able to escape from this room." Her voice turned incredibly happy when she said the last sentences… quite suspicious if you ask me...
