Lessons to learn

"What are you racist?" he asked and I instantly felt really bad about it. I apologized to him and admitted my daddy wouldn't like me hanging out with a nigger. Then I remembered that was a bad word and felt worse.

"You've got a lot to learn, and not just in books," he told me and I nodded, worried I was going to start crying. Soon we were walking together, where I wasn't sure because I'm so new to town. He told me he has taught lots of white girls what they need to know, and could tell that he liked my body by the way he kept looking me up and down.

We got to a building, he said he lived there and invited me up. He said it like I better go, and even though I was scared for some reason I went in.
