Chapter 3
by sixman
Well Playa, What are you going to Do?
Leave and Go Home. I don't Have time for this
After his haircut Zora watches as the guy gets up and pays. He is a tall guy standing well over a foot taller than her. He wore just a simple T-shirt that couldn’t hide his broad shoulder, muscular and sculpted arms, and a pair of nice jeans. He had sort of a Dwayne Wade type of feel about him, sorta cute, refined and nothing like the idiots that worked here. Rich was okay looking but he is so skinny that she wondered if he was on crack. The other barber Rob is about 5’9” stocky is dark as night and looks like a pit bull. As for Darryl, he is tall but weighs about 350lbs. There is no way in hell that she is going to get with him or anyone else that rolls up in here. She is tired of all of these wannabe Atlanta playa’s and wannabe pimps caught up with trying to show off with their big rims, cars and clothes they can’t afford, and macking. She knew there was something about this guy that was different.
She waited knowing that he’d come over and try to holla at her. Instead he just walked out the door without giving her a second glance.
“Oh Hell no!” Zora thought. “I’ll be right back.” She told her client. She went out the door where she saw him walking across the parking lot. “What? You can’t even say hello?” She asked causing him to stop in his tracks. She couldn’t believe that she is doing this, following some negro outside like she is. Then again maybe it is her vain nature. Zorn gets hit on every damn day. From work to where she lives there’s always someone that is trying to kick it to her. Now she makes a hint that she’d hook up with him and he couldn’t even say hello? She had to know why. Maybe he has a girlfriend? Maybe he’s married? Maybe he’s gay? What ever it is she had to know.
“Excuse me?”
“Yeah, I wanted to what’s up? I throw you a hint and you can’t even say hello?”
He cracked a smile and if she wasn’t already attracted to him it was over. “I thought you were joking.”
“I was but I thought you’d at least say hello. See if I was playing.”
“Well are you?”
“Depends.” She asked.
“Depends on what?”
“Whether or not you are going to ask me out or not.”
“As much as I’d like that I don’t think it’s a good idea. I’m only in town for a couple of days, three of which I’ll be on the road.”
“Going to see a girlfriend? Wife?”
“Not married. Don’t have a girlfriend. It’s business trip.”
“Well how about this? We hang out anyway and let the chips fall where they may?”
“Alright.”
Zora had never asked a man out in her life and couldn’t believe that she was doing so then. Granted he is cute but he isn’t that damn cute. Then again this isn’t a very good time for her either. She and her ex are in the middle of a heated custody battle with her nine month old son. They met while she was at school in Nashville. She attended Tennessee State and he was a law student at Vanderbilt. For years they kicked it and when he moved to Atlanta she was making trips down here every other weekend until she ended up pregnant 18-months ago. That’s when everything changed, where he started acting funny. He didn’t want to be a father, at least not with her. It wasn’t until she had the baby that she moved down to Atlanta. That is when she found out that he had a fiancé, a woman from his undergrad days that he is marrying. Unfortunately marriage didn’t stop him from wanting to sex her. Zora learned that for four years she was his little freak, the down for whatever chick that would do all of the things that his prudish stuck up fiancé wouldn’t and despite knowing that she was the other woman he wanted that to continue.
It wasn’t until a couple of months ago when she decided that enough was enough. She decided that she wasn’t going to be his whore on the side any more. He didn’t like that and suddenly he started talking about suing her for full custody. She knew that he doesn’t want to be the father; he made that clear when he kept accusing her of getting with someone else. Now he is threatening to make her look like a unfit mother for no other reason that he is mad because she won’t give it up. She knows she isn’t unfit but he still scares her. He comes from a wealthy and powerful family, he works for a prominent company and she is worried that people will look at this struggling hair stylist that lives in a less than stellar apartment complex with her kooky ways and changing color hair and side with him. So for the last three months she’s been laying low. No going out, no dates, or nothing that he or his spies can use against her. With her child gone for the week at her parents in Memphis the last thing she wants to do is sit at home all week and feel lonely.
“So where do you want to go?” he asks.
“Surprise me.”
Ah, you have to love Atlanta
