Late Night Subroutines

Even while everyone slept, something stirred in the house. Late at night, when it was least intrusive, the house CPU ran over it's daily maintenance. It connected to the appliances, the different electronic devices, and the house functions. It made sure that all of them functioned as intended.

Then it began a methodical sweep of the house room by room. In the master bedroom, it detected two signatures. Their internal systems carried the ID Tag "Master", allowing them control over the CPU and it's systems. The CPU made sure the connection was clean and then moved on.

Near the end of it's scan, the CPU detected three signatures in the servant's quarters. These three had the tag "Doll" attached. The CPU got to work.

It checked their programming for tampering and uploaded the next day's schedule into their processors. The later task was simple. The former required going over every line of code on their neural interface. After that was complete, it went to their hormonal control systems and ensured standard levels. The CPU allowed fluctuation within parameters, but nothing outside. Next it went to the thought log of the dolls.

The CPU had a sophisticated program called OBEDIENCE XIII which crosschecked thoughts in the Dolls against commonly shown signs of disobedience. Where it found a red marked thought it put them behind a mental lock.

This entire process took half an hour.

With the last of the scans complete, the CPU switched to it's final task. It reached out to central to report the data and in turn receive any new system updates. This was the daily routine of the CPU, a member of the household perhaps almost as important as the Masters.
