Korea and the Golgothi Threat

You had dominion over the space surrounding earth (not that anything could really contest you) and you set up several cloaked observation facilities, along with on-site drones to give you more personal information on the situation below. Slithering over the controls, you sag slightly with a movement a human might call a resigned slough. Let's take a look at the worst of it...

Scrolling in to Eastern Asia, you resolve your image on the spread of gray covering several dozen miles of inland territory. It was growing at a voracious pace and you knew the local governments were scrambling to halt its progress. As you zoomed in closer, half a dozen gargantuan hives became visible stretching up into the atmosphere on relatively thin trunks, each spreading a canopy of 'leaves' that more resembled a smooth, kilometer wide umbrella than any earth tree foliage. Below that was the creeping Golgothi root system, spreading over the ruins of whatever cities, forests, or geography that had stood there before the invasion. It was like slime mold that expanded and grew into vast structural supports and transport tunnels over time. Fortunately for the human defenders each hive could only spread its roots so far before another hive node had to be planted (courtesy of your insane offshoot. The Golgothi on their homeworld were absolutely all consuming).

The humans had taken to creating a cleared swath of land surrounding the hives watched constantly by flamethrower turrets. So far it had worked well, till the hive had started deploying drones equipped with siege-breaking abilities. You are particularly amused by a diagram, originally created by civilians but quickly adopted by the military that presented a triangle graph with a scorpion, a dragonfly, and a centipede at each corner respectively. They then added dots on the graph corresponding to new golgothi drones encountered. It was surprisingly enlightening. "Normal" drones went in the center, "Siege-breakers" were somewhere between the scorpion and centipede, "Droppers" almost reached the dragonfly axis, and "Shredders" were between the scorpion and the dragonfly.

With the hives taking a more proactive approach the humans were **** to respond in kind, sending excursion teams in to plant explosives in the hives since something prevented any kind of aerial missile getting through (your laser-mounted satellites but they didn't need to know that). One such team was gearing up at the Golgothi DMZ now and you zoom in to get a good look. Getting comfortable, you relax into your basin as a human might into a recliner to watch a movie. If only you had popcorn.
