Kingdom of Itheria

The Kingdom of Itheria is where most of the story will likely take place. It's on the southern end of the continent of Motania, along the coast. They're moderately prosperous with primarily forests and plains with a few hilly landscapes spattered about.

Laws and Traditions:

Itheria has Male-Preferred primogeniture succession laws. This means that the oldest son of the King or Queen will inherit. Children take the throne at 18 and abdicate to their heir at the age of 50. there are reasons why I picked these numbers. I picked 18 instead of 16 to comply with Chyoa rules. I know 'underage' varies around the world, but Chyoa defines Underage sex as younger than 18 years old. Therefore, that's the age that i picked. As far as the abdication rule goes. That's pretty much there to put a limit to how long a single character can go on. While it is possible to continue on basically indefinitely without that limit. It does give a "hard cap" to how long a character can go before being retired. It's especially useful for situations where a ruler may be particularly long-lived due to his or her heritage.

Should a King or Queen die before their child reaches the age of 18, a Regent will be put in place. The regent is not bound by the 50 years old clause as they're only around until the new ruler reaches the appropriate age. A child's parent will always be the preferred regent. Should neither of the parents survive, the council will dictate who will be Regent. Typically picked from among themselves. The council also has the power to legitimize bastards, if there are no other legitimate children to the previous ruler and there's sufficient evidence that an illegitimate child was conceived by that ruler.

****: Ah yes, ****. **** was a common practice among our historical rulers and that practice also exists on Motania. However, **** between siblings is considered taboo and the children of such a union are considered abominations. Typically these children are abhorrent in the eyes of the nobility and subjects alike.

Magic Talent(created by Omegah2o): In order to protect the realm from mages gaining too much power; people(including nobles) that show a talent for magic are sent off to the Coven of Magi to be trained as a sorcerer. Nobles with titles or in line to receive a title are required to abdicate unless there is no legitimate heir.

The King's Own(created by Zingiber): The King's Own Regiment is an elite brotherhood of soldiers. They often consist of men who have nowhere else to go. In exchange for their loyalty and rigorous training to make them into an elite fighting ****, they are given a place within the brotherhood. They share food, tents, and equipment, even wives who have taken similar vows. Their unity makes them a reliable **** on the battlefield. The King's Own are often the first to clash with the enemy and the last to leave the battlefield.

Notable locations within Itheria(basically any place that has been mentioned or visited):

The Capital- The capital is the seat of Itheria. An official name for it has never been given. However, it's a little late to change that now. My personal headcanon is that The Capital is likely also called Itheria and is just referred to as "The Capital" to maintain the distinction between Itheria(The Kingdom) and Itheria(The Capital City), but it is the largest city in the kingdom. It's located in the eastern central part of the kingdom, safely inland to protect it from sea-based raids.

Luxem- The county of Luxem lies three days north of of the capital. It's been ruled by the Loon family for generations and is directly under the vassalage of the King of Itheria.

Senna- A small farming village a few short hours east of the capital. There's little of note here outside of a small inn.

The Great Forest(created by YourBestNightmare) - Also know as The Great Northern Woods. The Great Forest lies on the northern region of Itheria. They straddle the boundaries between a number of regions. They are dense and full of strange creatures and monsters. The legal boundaries technically split the forest reasonably, but because of it's location, density, and danger, it's technically disputed territory between the nations. Since no nation has attempted to really pacify them, The Great Forest is an unclaimed wilderness, technically unclaimed by any lawful authority.

The Frostpeak Mountains(created by Omegah2o) - A line of tall mountains named for their snowy peaks that straddles the southernmost border of Itheria right against The Sea. This region is much more inhospitable than others having mostly swamp lands and rough mountainous terrain. The Frostpeak Mountains boasts being home to The White Spire. The largest mountain in all of Motania.

County of Undrek(Created by fyreant)-A vassal to The Frostpeaks and a county within it. Despite this, they pay little in the way of military forces. Much preferring tributes of coin and goods (and... "services") rather than fighting men. Undrek has some very unusual customs. They have a considerable Goblin population which has integrated much better into Undrek than the rest of the kingdom(although it's nowhere near perfect). They are also tolerant of any and all forms of magic along with banditry. They also have a much more matriarchal society, being ruled by a Countess of Undrek for hundreds of years.

Duchy of Vismark(Created by SonofOsman) - The Duchy of Vismark lies on the Northwestern border of Itheria. Vismark lies nestled between The Kisten Crags to the north, The Great Forest to the East, and The Sea to the west. It is currently one of the larger feudal titles held within the realm. It's ruled by the Meddin Family. An old family with a long tradition of honor and loyalty who rule from Castle Medden.

Duchy of The Frostpeaks(Created by Omegah2o) - The Duchy of The Frostpeaks lies on the southernmost edges of Itheria. This hardy region is large, but inhospitable. Ruled for generations by the Von Doom family from Fortress Von Doom, a castle built into The White Spire. This region houses the few, but powerful Frost Knights. These powerful men have honed their skills against the dangers of the land.

Duchy of Goldfields(created by nogalac9) - The Duchy of Goldfields lies on the western coast of Itheria. A wealthy region by the sea, it has been and often is the target of raiders from pirates to foreigners. To the East it borders The Crownlands and to the South The White Spire and The Frostpeaks can be seen across the bay.

Duchy of Opheal - A rarely held title, The Duchy of Opheal technically borders The Capital to the south and connects Goldfields and The Frostpeaks by land. However, it is a rarely held title as it is typically only used as a titual title for family members of The King and most of it lies within The Crownlands.

Duchy of Hightree(created by Zingiber)- The Duchy of Hightree lies between The Crownlands and The Great Forest. Currently the Title is unheld as the last holder of the title as the last remaining members of the House of Hightree fell in combat with the last known dragon in Northern Itheria. King Bryce's mother was of House Hightree.
