Chapter 9 by Manbear Manbear

Are things as bad as they look?

Kaylie intervenes

Suddenly you hear Kaylie's voice booming though the huge speakers that surround the stage.

"Boys, boys, boys!" She teases, somehow sounding relaxed and playful and everyone, including the biker that held you so easily before swung around to stare at the slender singer who was wagging her finger at them like a scolding mother. "Put down your toys, we have a concert to hear." Somehow Kaylie had climbed onto stage, borrowed the microphone from the lead singer of the rock band (who in spite of his tough image looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there) and was doing her best to defuse the situation before it got any uglier.

"Church-boy," Kaylei stared directly at Chris urging him with her eyes to trust her, "put down your Teddy-bear, he's not gonna hurt you." Out of the corner of your eye you see Chris slowly ease his grip on the man who outweighed him by at least fifty pounds and just a minute ago was ready to rip his head off, but now the attention was turned to you and the man holding you by the hair.

"Tough-guy, don't you think you're a little old to be playing with Barbie-dolls?" She teases, and all around you hear nervous laughter, you aren't sure if the crowd is laughing at the biker, Kaylie's description of you, or just because it looked like the situation might not get any worse. "Put down your doll, Honey, and help your friends get to the first-aid tent." All around you see concert goers nodding and to your relief you are lowered back to the ground and pushed gently into the arms of a park ranger who quickly leads you away. You hear the man threaten Chris as you are led away.

"It's not over, Church-boy." His voice is rough and the menace in his words are not lost on you. "I know your sweet ride, and we'll meet again. You, me, my boys and your hot bitch." You twist in the ranger's grip trying to get back to see what was happening, but he refuses to let you go.

"Chris can take of himself, Miss. He'd kill me if I let you get back into that mess." Knowing that he was probably right, you let him lead you behind the stage and leads you into a small park office. You are relieved to hear the blaring music of the rock band resume, surely that's a good sign, isn't it? To your relief Chris walks in less than two minutes later and to your surprise you jump to your feet, landing on your sore ankle and all but fall into his arms.

"Chris, I'm sorry-" He interrupts you with a gentle kiss. This is certainly not how you thought this date with Chris was going to go, you remember doubting if you'd be kissing him at all and certainly not in front of several park grinning employees. Before the kiss gets too intense, Chris slowly pulls away still holding you firmly in his arms, this was OK too and you rest your cheek against his shoulder as he turns to talk to the other rangers.

"Are the Snake-eyes behaving themselves, or should I be calling in some favors from people I know in the State Police?"

What's the situation out there?
