Kayla stays behind the bar

Even as she stood contemplating going to clean the table, Brian, the bar manager for the night strode in and got in ahead of her with table cleaning duties. If only she'd moved when the opportunity was there, she could observe their body language, but she'd love to hear their conversation. The air between Jason and his date still seemed frosty, until for the first time Kayla noticed that Jason was taking the lead in the conversation. She had no idea what he was saying, but the longer he talked the more it looked like his date was about to slap him, when suddenly she got up and walked to the bar.

"Do you do Jagger bombs?" she asked, forcing Kayla to stifle a laugh at the combination of her mispronunciation along with her posh accent "can I have two.... no make that four please"

"Four Jaeger bombs coming up" said Kayla making sure to put emphasis on the correct pronunciation. There weren't many times in life she'd get one over a woman like her, so she might as well savour them when they did come around.

As she started making the drinks Brian returned with a collection of dirty glasses from around the pub. "Looks like it's going to be a quiet night, do you want an early finish - you look dead on your feet" he told Kayla

As much as Kayla hated being told she told looked knackered she felt it - sometimes the quiet nights behind the bar were the most tiring. Plus, if she hurried home she might get the chance to see Stuart before he turned in for the night. She finished off the drinks before gathering up her things and heading home.

But when she got in she found Stuart already dead to the world. After her regular end of the day stretches Kayla climbed into bed beside her sleeping boyfriend, closed her eyes and allowed sleep to take her over. But if she thought she was going to get a peaceful night's sleep she was sadly mistaken.
