Katie's ring

Katie didn't like snooping around other people's places, and couldn't believe she had been talked into this. She was very independent and aloof, and prided herself on it. She only had two friends, and could not keep a boyfriend because she was too demanding.
Katie told her friends goodbye and started to walk the six blocks home. She tried to take the ring off and leave it behind, but she couldn't. She figure she'd soap it up at home and get rid of it.
On the way home she heard a voice, "So you pride yourself on being aloof and demanding, eh?"
She looked around and saw no one. "She convinced herself it was her imagination or a loud radio or TV.
"You should be more compliant and submissive, you snotty bitch!"
The voice was louder.
Katie grew scared and started walking faster.
"In fact, I think you should have no free will. You need to do what your told!"
Katie looked around franticly and was not jogging for home. As she was a block and half away, she saw that nerdy fantasy geek Julian taking out the trash. She knew Julian had a crush on her since 5th grade and despite her repeated and ever more mean dismissals of his requests, kept asking her out.
