Chapter 7
What's next?
Kate's "First Day"
Delia lead the little woman by the hand and sat her at a small, round table. Kate could only look up at the teacher as she knelt down, a warm smile on her face.
"Since my class will be gone the entire day," Delia explained, "that means that we will be having a lot of fun together. What would you like to do first, Katie? Arts and crafts? Story time? Snack time? Or perhaps you'd like to play with some of the toys?"
Kate fought back an annoyed groan. This woman seemed to think that she was a little girl too. This had to be rectified now. "I know how this looks," Kate began to explain, "but I can assure you that this is all just a big misunderstanding. I'm not supposed to be here. I'm too old for kindergarten."
"Oh, really?" Delia asked with a giggle, "And how old are you then?"
"I'm twenty-three." Kate explained, "Maybe a few years younger than you. And I originally came here for a teaching position."
"Ooh, twenty-three AND a teacher!" Delia cooed excitedly, ruffling Kate's hair slightly. "I see that someone has a very healthy imagination!"
Kate actually groaned this time. This idiot actually thought that she was some kid playing make believe!
"Why don't I make you a little snack, and then you can go play with the toys?" Delia suggested, pointing to the large play area in the back as she walked over to a nearby fridge.
Kate opened her mouth to say something, but merely sighed instead. What was the point? It was obvious that this woman didn't believe her either. She simply thought that Kate was just a child old enough for kindergarten and nothing more! On the bright side, at least she wasn't spanking her like the other woman was.
Delia soon returned with a plate of graham crackers and carrot sticks, and a sippy cup of apple juice, sitting them in front of the little woman. Kate merely stared at the snack in front of her, especially the sippy cup. Looking back up, she saw Delia give her another warm smile. Not seeing a way out of this, Kate sighed as she reached forward and began to nibble on the graham crackers and take a few sips of her apple juice, not stopping until the plate and sippy cup were empty.
Once she was done, Kate looked up at the the teacher hopefully. "Do you have something that I can wear, Ms. Stone? I'm cold."
"Yes, I imagine that you would be chilly after running around in just your pull-ups." Delia said with a chuckle as she turned to walk towards a closet in the back.
Being reminded of her state of undress, Kate immediately blushed a bright scarlet as she brought her hands to her flat chest.
"These are usually for when my class plays dress up," Delia explained as she searched through the closet, "but I'm sure that it would be okay for you to borrow one of them until we can get you some clothes. Yes, this will do nicely!"
Kate looked up at the costume that Delia had pulled out... Her eyes widening and her jaw dropping in a mixture of shock and terror as she saw just what it was that was on the coat hanger!
What is it?
