Series:

Ka-ren the Barbarian

For their first international sexploitation series, JIYUU decided to produce a live-action adaptation of "Ka-ren the Barbarian", a popular manga created in 2011 by Japanese mangaka group CLAMP. The character, conceived as a spoof of Conan the Barbarian, had quickly achieved a good degree of popularity, both in Japan and abroad, and many fans were excited when they heard the news.

The original manga was packed with nudity, sex and ****. For this reason, fans did not expect to ever be able to see it in live-action. It seemed impossible that any big studio would ever want to invest in a show like that or, even worse that, if they did, they would make many changes to the lore and create a decaffeinated version that would not respect its source material. Luckily for them, that's why JIYUU was created: to do what nobody else dared (and take the money that millions were willing to pay but Hollywood studios didn't seem to want).

Seen with perspective, "Ka-ren the Barbarian" and JIYUU were made for each other. The manga had all the nudity and eroticism that JIYUU could ever want, and they were the only studio disposed to invest a big budget in a project of these characteristics. It was a match made in heaven: old fans were marveled to see a live-action show that actually represented the source material without pussifying it, and mainstream audiences were fascinated when they discovered it for the first time.
