Chapter 14
by Vain
What should he do then?
Just try and focus on the match, and that cute reporter
Though Jack found it difficult to ignore his daughter's state of clothes completely, his attention was eventually drawn back to the ongoing match on the TV screen. It seemed like the game was fairly even, and the mood was tense among the players while the female reporter continued asking them various questions about the match itself, or sometimes about something personal as well.
It wasn't really their answers, or even the match itself that caught Jack's interest though, and he couldn't help but notice how most players looked at the girl the same way he did himself. The one major question of interest, if going by the look in their eyes, was whether she was single or out of league. And the fact that many of the guys she was interviewing were both successful and quite good looking certainly said something about herself, as she was able to navigate the ogling crowd without ever losing her professionalism.
Once again he felt that strange sense of familiarity about her, but still couldn't think of anything else than how much she reminded him vaguely of his own ex wife and daughters. She certainly had the same kind of smile at least, even if she didn't seem to do so very often, and the look in her eyes was always more serious than he'd ever seen in any of the women of his family.
More than anything she was really cute though, if almost as short as Kim, and quite possibly thinner than any of them, but in a good way that further accentuated her feminine features. Her hair was a lustrous dark brown, unlike the girls in his own family, and while she kept it short it wasn't like the windswept curls of his own or Kimberly's.
In short, there was no wonder at all that Jack felt more than mildly attracted to a woman like this, and he felt like he'd looked more than twice if he'd ever met her in person, which was why it felt impossible that he'd met her before.
"Hey, dad?" Hid oldest daughter suddenly interrupted his thoughts, for the second time the same evening, and he glared at her briefly while she gave her another of those annoyingly mischievous little smiles she seemed so fond of. "I thought you said you liked to see the match, right...?"
She didn't need to explain what she meant with a comment like that, and for a second Jack pondered how to explain away why he'd been staring his eyes out at some hot young chick on TV. Then he realized that he wasn't technically married to their mother any more, and really wouldn't need to whitewash himself about anything.
Still he didn't feel like saying too much though, not because he was worried about the girls reactions, but rather because it made feel like he was a teenager wishing to rebel against his parents, while in fact it should be the other way around. And if he knew his daughter's well enough, they'd never let him live it down if they found him gawking over someone who was probably just barely half his own age. Which in turn was the same age as the girls themselves.
Thus he remained quiet, and returned to the game again while Catherine surprised him by choosing not to push the subject. It was obvious she'd been eyeing the young reporter herself though, while Jack had assumed she was much more interested in the guys in the team, and he came to realize that even a girl like Kate had reasons to be jealous every now and then...
What's after the game is over then?
Girls of Jack
One man's world has been turned upside down, but he may find hope in the most unexpected places.
A story which I hope to work on when I have the time for it. For now it's closed for others, but I'll gladly accept ideas and suggestions for how to improve or continue the story! I've now started adding conditions, which is how I planned it from the start. So far it's recommended to read without activating the play function, but please try it out if you want, and let me know if you find something odd about the scoring.
