Chapter 12

Which Do You Chose? (And Do You Give Mister Moon A Vote In This?)
Jun Dainichi: ACE TRAINER! (Yes, The Deciding One...)
You know, intellectually, that Pokémon have to fight to level up which leads to metamorphosis into more advanced life cycle stages which in turn allow them to develop enough to breed, but you just can't subject Mister Moon to this kind of pain again... Unless...
"Mister Moon? I'm sorry you got hurt, and if you want I'll find us another job that won't involve battles, but all Pokémon have to fight in order to mature into their adult forms. If you want to stay a Caterpillar forever I won't make you fight, but..." You say looking away then finally meet his gaze, and are shocked to see lighting dancing there...
"LUNAPILLAR." He hisses, and his spines bristle. "Luna, pillar, pillar-Lunapillar!" He says and you get the feeling that he is issuing a challenge, not just to you but to any Pokémon that tries to pull another sucker-punch like the one he suffered earlier today.
"OK, if your sure you want to become a fighting Pokémon say 'Luna', if you want to stay a Caterpillar and become researchers or something say 'pillar'," You state, and Mister Moon rears up on his back feet hissing alarmingly, which was not either option, before in a deafening bellow he shouts: "LUNA!!!" so loudly it rattles your window.
"Jun? What's going on in there?" Your mother asks concerned, but, smiling, you just shout back: "Everything's Fine Mom." and hold a finger to your lips in Mister Moon's direction.
As he lies back down you pat him on the head and say: "That's my brave guy, we're going to go far you and me, I can Feel it," then finish applying the bruise balm and take him downstairs for dinner...
Your already late for starting on the tourney circuit for this year's championship but your figuring that's not the best strategy anyway. You're going to train Mister Moon all this year and through the winter months while catching some other Pokémon to form an effective team, then go gym storming in the spring and summer of the following year. Sure you'll be up a division, but that's not a big deal, for the Grand Tourney all the division winners battle in a single elimination 16 brackets, and you have to be undefeated in the gym, championship, AND 'grand-championship' battles to win the right to face Professor Oak again. Better to get all the painful early lessons and rookie mistakes out of the way on wild Pokémon and pickup battles that you don't have to worry about as much.
Instead of leaving home to go gallivanting about the league you stick around town for a week while you pour over Professor Oak's book day and night and teach Mister Moon how to Respond to a series of whistle commands you work out. It's kind of lonely, the only other two kids your age picked Pokémon and left the same day that your journey started, but soon enough you are ready, and you head into the parkland to the north to start putting together your "Raw-Bone Team"...
