Join him at the bar and buy a drink

You walk over to the bar casually and take the stool next to him. "Could I get a JD and coke" you ask the barman. "You want another?" you ask the client. He nods. "Same again for my friend". As the barman leaves to make the drinks, you turn to Jake. "Hi, Jake, right? I'm Alan, please to meet you" you say, offering a hand.

"Hi...I'm Jake" says Jake, despite you already using his name. He grimaces at his faux pas. "Shit, sorry...you said that..."

"It's OK" you say with a friendly smile. The barman returns with the drinks. You take a sip of your own and watch as Jake drains half his glass.
