Jo is on the phone.

Tom awoke to the sound of Jo's voice talking on the phone. "What? No way!" she said. "Look, I know it'll probably be okay, but I'm just saying i'm not gonna do it without someone there. You know better!" Jo listened for a few minutes. "Well, we'll see...No, I'm coming, we just better get something worked out, that's all I'm saying...Okay, bye." She hung up.

Tom wiped sleep from his eyes, enough to see that Jo was sitting up in bed, as naked as the night before when they had passed out from their exertions. "Everything all right?" he said.

"Oh, yeah, it's OK. I was just calling my friend about the job tomorrow. Her chaperone flaked out and she'd not sure she'll be able to get another one on short notice."

"Chaperone?"

"Sure. Whenever you do a private gig like this one, you always bring along someone to watch out for you. Nothing ever happens, but you need someone there just to make sure the clients know that nothing funny is allowed to happen. Just having someone in the room has always been enough for me." Jo thought for a moment. "Say, Tom, I know this is way out of your way and everything, but given the situation, I could really make it worth your while if you could stand in. It'd mean driving me there and staying overnight, then standing around at the gig and watching out. I'll pay you twice what we were going to pay the flaker. I know it's a lot to ask, and if it's too much, just say so, I'll get there on my own and I'm sure we'll work something out. What do you say?"
