Jean can't break it

"Well, for now I'll break off the connection, but just ask if you want to use it again."

Ashley felt her stomach drop a little. Jean blinked. Then she closed her eyes. Then her brows furrowed, and her face screwed up in concentration. After a while, she opened her eyes wide. "I can't do it."

"What?"

"The link. I can't break it, we're still connected."

"What?! Why not?!"

"I'm not sure. This has never happened before."

Ashley could see worry on her face, and even more, feel it through the bond that was beginning to seem like it was going to be permanent. She wanted to tell her that it was okay, but she wasn't even sure herself, and she might just make Jean more upset.
