Chapter 24 by Faustus Faustus

Who To Visit First?

James

Emma knew that once her and Jenny started talking, they would be there all night. So if she wanted to catch up with James she better do it before Jen monopolized all of her time.

She gave a light rap of her knuckles on the closed door, then entered at James' quiet insistence.

James' room looked plain in comparison to Jake's. The younger sibling displayed no trophies, athletic or otherwise, and no posters adorned his walls. However, the younger of Emma's male Cousins did have an impressive amount of books lining a bookcase and strewn throughout the room.

James sat at a small desk in the corner of his bedroom reading one such book. He smiled shyly as Emma finished taking in the sights of his room.

"I'm not bothering you am I?" Emma asked as James set down the book.

"No, not at all. Come in. I've read this one before anyway." James replied, giving a nod towards the book. "Are you a fan of Poe?"

Emma shrugged, "I read some in school, but can't say I honestly liked any of it."

James smiled again, "Fair enough. So what's up?"

Emma plopping down on the small single bed across from the desk, said, "Nothing, just came to visit you."

James seemed to be questioning why, then said, "Oh, OK, I just figured you would want to hang out with Jenny."

"I'll visit her too, but I figured I should come bug you first. You know her and I will be goofing around all night." Emma said. "You're my Cousin too, didn't want to miss a chance at catching up with you."

James nodded his agreement and the two fell in to a strained conversation. James was painfully shy it seemed. Emma assumed he was even a virgin. She did manage to get some information from him, like interests and hobbies. Most of which had to do with books or reading.

Finally Emma came to the conclusion that making her unfortunate introverted Cousin talk so much was probably **** for the boy.

Emma wrapped up their conversation and mentioned that she was going to go visit Jen and would let him get back to his books.

James smiled, genuinely this time, and seemed relieved.

Despite any awkwardness of the conversation, Emma had to admit that it felt good just to visit with her cousin again. She didn't remember him being so shy when they were young, but many years had gone by and she couldn't honestly say she remembered a whole lot about him from childhood.
