And so, a story begins...

Jack, young man finds a magic social media filter

This stories mainline will involve and expansion/transformation, but you're welcome to add any branches that you like (within chyoa TOS of course). All characters are over 18. Enjoy!

Jack lay on his parent's couch, mindlessly scrolling through endless Snapster videos. It was a Sunday night and he had once again found himself with nothing to do except veg out on the lounge on his phone. Talking parrots, thirst traps, motivational speakers and pirated movie clips all passed unwatched as he swiped endlessly like a lobotomized zombie.

In the kitchen, Jack's mom Sharon was stacking plates out of the dishwasher. They clattered loudly as she placed them into cupboards. Jack had often wondered if she was being intentionally loud to annoy him, or was just in a rush to get the chore over with. Jack greatly appreciated his parents letting him stay with them, but unfortunately they had a knack for getting on his nerves. He sighed, scolding himself internally for his intolerance.

Turning back to his phone, Jack toyed with the various icons along the bottom of the Snapster app. He stopped on the capture screen and his front camera activated. Jack's bored face stared back at him glumly from a low angle, showing a sizeable doublechin. "Attractive," he thought to himself sarcastically. In the bottom right corner of the screen, a flashing "NEW" badge caught Jack's eye. Scrolling past various beauty filters, he landed on the mysterious new filter thumbnail - a wand with a star on the end.

"Custom filter" appeared in bold letters at the top of the screen. A blank input field with a blinking text cursor was just below the heading. "Strange," he thought, "how are you supposed to know what options are available?"

Remembering a recent trend he had seen on his "for you" page, Jack entered "old" into the blank field. Instantly, the image of his face morphed into an aged appearance similar to the one he had seen others posting. Eugh, Jack was somewhat amused but mostly just disturbed by the preview of his future self. He wondered how anyone could have the confidence to post this effect. Clearing the text field, Jack entered "manly" instead. After a brief stutter, phone Jack became chad Jack. His brows and cheekbones became much more defined, and his chin and neck became exaggeratedly wide. He couldn't help but laugh at the overly masculine version of himself.

"Darling, could you give me a hand in here?" Jack's mom called out from the kitchen, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Scowling, Jack switched his phone screen off and rose from the couch to go help his mother. When he entered the kitchen, he found her waiting with a stern look, hand on hip. Her expression quickly shifted upon seeing him however, into an astonished and concerned one.

"Honey what's happened to you?!" she gasped, rushing closer to inspect Jack's face more closely.

"What do you mean?" Jack replied, confused by her fussing. He peered around his mother to try and see what she was talking about in the kitchen mirror above the stove. When he caught his reflection, his blood ran cold. The same super masculine face from the Snapster filter looked back at him in the mirror!

"No WAY!" Jack exclaimed, half shocked, half amazed. He peered closer at himself, feeling his widened chin and cheekbones. A feeling of dread grew in the pit of his stomach. What the fuck was happening to him? How was this real? Was it permanent?

In a panic, Jack sprinted back to the lounge room. He hurriedly unlocked his phone and pointed it at himself while walking back to the kitchen. He cleared the "manly" text from the box and in the phone view, his face reverted back to his old self. Checking the kitchen mirror, Jack looked to see if his face had returned to normal.

It had. Jack breathed a long sigh of relief.

His mom just stared at him throughout the ordeal, speechless and completely bewildered.

How does Jack explain?
