Into the desert, the lamias

While they were not the strongest folks in terms of martial might but the snakes were scary. So you heard at least. A deceptive and treasonous bunch. Again, this is what you had heard. Maybe the rumors were just that. You hoped they were. No way you wanted to be eaten up.

The land out there was mostly sand. You knew that much was true. Lamia's snake halves aided them greatly in navigating the dunes of the area. Never had you seen them but you had to assume they were at least hardy to live out there and survive. Only second hand stories came from there, which didn't help the snake's reputation.

You carried yourself proudly in your new form. There were no trade routes or even roads in the direction. "You know anything about the lamias?" you asked your companion aloud. He coughed lightly, as if clearing his throat before speaking.

"They are mostly secretive. Cloak themselves in the sand and some kind of primal magic. You must handle them with caution." The voice was worried, you could tell from the tone. "On the positive side, they have two members." Only the most important information clearly.

Your form barely tanned under the sun, keeping its softness. You would never have to worry about wrinkles at least. Miles of farmland eventually turned into desert. Along the way you barely rested. The heat of the days and the cold of the nights barely slowed you.

Little did you know serpentine eyes watched you through the shifting sands. There was no way of knowing. Magic, older than some of the gods, concealed your pursuers. To say nothing of the occasional sand storm. Even your godly form needed to stay out of those messes.

There was no certainty you would find a central kingdom of the lamias. Not even a guarantee they even had a town. They could be a disorganized group of scavengers. No way of knowing without first hand experience. You carried on into the sands, unaware of the stalker keeping a safe distance.
