Chapter 34
by bobbobbobthethir
What do you do?
Interview with Jeanne
“Yeah, I’ve got some time,” you say to Jeanne. “I’ve never been interviewed in person before though - it’s kinda intimidating not having time to think out your responses on the monitor beforehand.”
“Oh, don’t worry,” Jeanne says, setting down her phone to record the conversation. “I’ll edit out anything you don’t like, and besides, you’re often wittier in person than you might expect!”
“Alright, alright, I’m convinced. So what do you want me to do? Introduce myself?” you ask.
“Nah, I’ll write up an intro for you - don’t worry, it will be appropriately flattering. Sexiest producer known to mankind and all that,” she says, winking. “But seriously, first question: How does it feel, knowing that millions of people around the world have listened and danced to your music?”
“It’s pretty unreal, if I’m being honest with you. I mean, most of the time it doesn’t really cross my mind, but every once in a while I’ll hear the song come on over the radio or something, and I’ll think to myself - damn, there are all those people out there who listened and liked what I made.”
“Yes, and what you’ve made is made it big,” Jeanne says, glancing at your crotch. “Tell me, what else are you working on at the moment? Anything big that we can expect?”
“I’ve dabbled with a few projects, and have an EP in the works, but if I’m being honest with you, it’s been almost a month since I’ve last touched my DAW,” you say.
“Producer’s block?”
“No, no, I was sick for the last two weeks,” you say, quickly explaining the medical mishap you were in. Jeanne looks appropriately sympathetic, and rests a hand on yours. “The thing is, they wouldn’t let me have any of my studio monitors in the hospital room, so I didn’t feel comfortable making music. And now that I’m actually at college, there’s been so much work and other stuff going on that I haven’t had the chance to work on my music. So really, it’s been the opposite of producer’s block - I actually have so many ideas that I want to get down, but no time to do it.”
“Ah, the classic college student’s dilemma,” Jeanne says. “Well, we all know your work, so why don’t you tell us a little bit about Alex Knight as a student? What are you planning to major in? What hobbies do you have?”
“Everybody asks me this major question, and I always answer chemistry. The truth is, I’m only good at one thing in life - synthesis. But luckily, it happens to be applicable to both electronic music and organic chem, so I’m set for life. Of course, I hear that orgo in college is completely different from the stuff that I was doing in high school, so you know… I might turn out to actually be bad at it. Check back in a year or so, and I’ll let you know.”
“Synthesis? Hah, good one,” Jeanne says, laughing despite the **** joke. “Now, for a little bit of human interest, a question that’s going to be a little more personal: are you going out with anyone at the moment? Can you tell us a bit about the lucky person?”
How do you respond?
