Ingrid

You move over and take a seat next to Ingrid. She seems a little surprised as you never spoke much, okay never, at school. "I always wondered what happened to you, did you not pass or what?".

"Oh, I got married, dropped out, learnt to hate my husband and got a divorce." You both spend some time summarising the last few years and filling in with idle small talk. "I thought today would be the perfect opportunity to start afresh with a lot of the people I used to hang out with.", she says.

"That's what I thought too" you say, "Its like having a clean slate in many ways, everyone expects other people to have changed a bit. Strange the perspective a couple of years gives you, the things I'd do differently if I knew then what I knew now and all that."

"Indeed" she replies. "Like what for instance?"

"Well I could let you know how long I had a crush on you for example." You say as calmly as you can manage. You swear you can see Dale trying to suppress a smile as she pretends not to have overheard you.

"Really? I must say I never noticed, had my attention elsewhere I guess, I think you were probably a bit straight and conservative for my tastes then." Her eyes look very appraising and you're beginning to like what you see. "Well it was fairly long running this crush I must say, I was very disappointed not to see you back in final year."

Just as she is about to respond the siren for recess sounds. "Hey want to go down the hill?" Ingrid asks. The hill was where all the druggies and some of the popular crowd hung out, strictly an invitation only location.
