Information about the neo Inquisition

History

The original Inquisition was founded in the 13th century as a tool of the catholic church to persecute and punish heretics. The inquisitors were partly radical fanatics, but also typical officials. Contrary to popular belief, the Inquisition was only partially involved in witch hunts in Europe. If the Inquisition really killed a vampire, werewolf or even a witch, then it happened out of coincidence or under heavy losses.

By the end of the Middle Ages, as science and rationality supplanted people's belief in monsters and magic, most people thought the magical world never existed. This benefited the peaceful creatures, such as fairies, witches, wizards and werewolves, because they were no longer pursued, imprisoned and killed by angry crowds. And even rather unfriendly creatures, like vampires, demons and dark magicians, decided to play along since they could hide in the shadows and gather strength.

But of course not all magic creatures followed this golden rule and hid themselves. Vampires still hunt for blood, werewolves still loose control and gargoyles still hunt humans for reasons nobody knows.

Not all humans forgot the magic world. Survivors of attacks, relatives of victims and witnesses of magic things once came together and decided, humanity must be protected. In the beginning, the church supported them because they said magic is against god. It is also likely they just wanted to use the neo Inquisiton the same way they did with the original Inquisition.

At first the so called neo Inquisition was only a small group who hardly stood a chance against the monsters. But they learned and grew stronger. With the help of some Wizards who wanted to protect humanity, they became a serious threat. And after some decades the small group grew and got more victories. Some of the members even became famous as characters in novels (Van Helsing).

In modern times, the neo Inquisition is much better prepared and often leaves the battlefield victorious. Women can join just like men and the group has nothing to do with religion anymore. They keep contact to the most powerful politics in the world and hunt magic creatures in 98% of all countries.

Current situation

If the neo Inquisition is a threat for the magic world, a potential alley or just an annoying disruptive factor depends on who you ask. Vampires outnumber the neo Inquisition fivefold, but the clans are not often working together. Werwolves are about the same number but mostly remain hidden and don't seek trouble. Witches are much more powerful but only a few hundred of them exist. And fairies are not a threat for anybody no matter how many come together.

Since the members of the neo Inquisition have no special abilities like their enemies, the fighter of the neo Inquisition train a lot and uses high-tech equipment to take down enemies. The also have spies to end a possible thread before it grows too big.

The commanders of neo Inquisition, the Lords and Ladies, are very free in their decisions how to deal with magic creatures. Some wish all magic live the most painful ****, other at lest consider to form an alliance with some magic creatures. Some of these alliances are only short term, but there are a few witches and wizards who work with the neo Inquisition for a long time.

Ranks

The neo Inquisition has some ranks to structure their people.

Grand Inquisitor – There are seven Grand Inquistors around the world. One on each continent. Together they form the great council and decide the future ways of the neo Inquisition. Each grand Inquisitors observes his Lords and Ladies, punishes them for misbehavior and name new Lords and Ladies. They also keep contact with the leaders of every country they have to work in.

Lord/Lady Inquisitor – They take the roles of field commanders and lead squads of Knights in missions or command a base.

Knight – A solider who follows a Lord or Lady in battle or trains Novices.

Novice – A Knight or Supporter in training. When he or she is ready, he can absolve a special test to become a Knight or Supporter.

Supporter – They are responsible for tactics, targets, equipment, organization and medical aid. Even a witch or Wizard can become a Supporter and teach others to make runes and understand magic creatures. Supporter study technologies, magic and medicine to help the Knights before and after missions.
