Long Ride Home
I speak Meme.
The little car was nice and warm. For his part, Robin could barely understand much of the conversation that was tossed back and forth between the three girls. Technically they were women, but drawing attention to that fact would of course mean that he was a dirty pervert with one thing on his mind. Robin wasn't taking any chances at this point, and while it was fun to spend time alone with younger women, he had to remind himself that he already had one waiting for him back home. Well, actually she wasn't waiting back home. Come to think of it, they'd never actually discussed his seeing other people...
Robin banished the thought, reminding himself that he already WAS seeing another person. The fact that they both got along was a bonus that he would never in a million years have expected. It was sweet actually the few times he'd come home to find that Viola had once again snuggled up on the couch with Lauren, or was busily assisting one of the girls with a quest in some epic adventure that he really needed to get around to playing.
"So, Rob's totally going for the 'this is fine'." Em commented from the back seat as the car idled at a particularly long stop light, that was made longer by the parade of slowly moving shopping carts in the middle of the crosswalk.
"I understood that reference!" Robin held up a finger and did his best Steve Rogers.
"No cred for one that's so old the mainstream picked it up." Pink remarked from the back, and Robin felt a subtle kick at the back of his seat.
"Oooh, Harsh. I think it was cute." Em replied. "Should totally do one of those swole doge vs cheems with it."
"Uh, what?" Robin asked, bewildered by the statement. "Totally missed that."
"You haven't seen Swole Doge? Where have you been, under a rock?" Em giggled, pulling up her cell phone before showing a picture of two dogs, one looking like a body builder and the other wearing a pair of headphones. The caption was something about her dad at seventeen and the other dog wishing it was a cute anime girl, but he couldn't quite catch it as the car moved again, and his attention was drawn back to the darkened road and the busy city streets.
"Sorry, don't use a cell much." Robin replied, wondering about how much longer this ride was going to actually be. Miki had driven in the exact opposite direction from his house, and he knew that she was going to be dropping off the other two first, but it still made that sense of danger activate, even though there really wasn't any reason.
"Saw the piece that Miranda was wearing last week. You gonna do any more stuff for the dojo?" Miki broke in, changing the subject to a tanto that Robin had made for the club when he'd first joined. It hadn't been a big deal to Robin, merely a fun little project to while away a couple days, but Sensei John had taken it as an incredible honor, even going so far as to place the item in the same case that held trophies, certifications, and numerous other awards. Robin hadn't even thought it was a particularly good piece, as he hated making weapons. But it had been asked, so he made it.
"Well, don't think that we really need many horseshoes or chain links. Did he need some nails to put up a shed?" Robin joked, thinking about some of the first projects that he'd done.
"You know that's totally inefficient." Pink replied, again making sure that Robin knew exactly how little he mattered to her, and how he needed to be more impressive if he wanted to get her attention. "With express delivery, you can get that right to your door from a cell."
"Jeez, Madison, who pissed in your froot loops?" Em laughed at the girl next to her, and Robin heard a soft "ow" from the back seat.
"Do you want me to pull over, because I'll pull over and take us right back home!" Miki chortled next to Robin. "Fuck it, I'm feeling drive through. Who's for drive through?" She turned the car onto a side street, and Robin tried to remember exactly where they were, as the city tended to get a little insane in the streets with all the one ways, bicycle paths, and random construction.
