Chapter 3 by vgadict vgadict

Did you bring it?

I brought my laptop

I set down my backpack and took out my laptop. Jake was instantly impressed. "That's a high end model! It must have cost a fortune."

"Not really", I replied in a hushed voice, trying to remind Jake that we needed to be quiet here in the library. "I got a good deal on a used one." I flipped open the cover and waited for a moment for it to come out of hibernation. Within a few seconds, it was alive, the background proudly displaying a colorful picture I'd taken last fall in the small woods near my home showing the trees in full autumn glory. After inserting the jump drive, it paused for few seconds, and then popped up a message about needing to download and install a driver. I clicked OK, and then waited...and waited.

After nearly a minute of no progress, I turned to Jake and whispered, "Are you sure this drive works?"

"The driver download seems really slow. It took a while to load the first time I used it too."

A near-eternity later, the setup was finally complete and I was able to view the new drive which had a file called "Lab1_TnA.doc" and a folder called "My Stuff". After opening the lab document and briefly checking the test and analysis info that Jake had written, I copied it to my desktop, and then I offered to combine it into the final report. Jake agreed, and mumbled a relieved, "Thanks, I've got a lot of stuff to do." I removed the jump drive and handed it back to Jake, and he hurriedly stuffed it into his bag along with his laptop.

I barely got out a "See you Tuesday" before he was too far out of earshot. A librarian near the front desk gave me a stern look, indicating that I had exceeded the tolerable decibel level. Since I had all I needed, I decided to work on combining the report here in the library. Jake's test data section was good, but the analysis section seemed incomplete. It had a good start, but then seemed to have been written hastily, skipping over some key points. I added a few statements in the analysis, and a wrap-up to pull together my procedure section with Jake's sections. It could probably be better, but this should be enough for a passing grade.

Before closing the laptop, I noticed a something else on my desktop. Next to the new lab file I'd copied from Jake's jump drive was a folder called "My Stuff". I realized that I must have accidentally had both the file and folder highlighted when I copied them to my desktop. I was curious what kinds of files Jake might have, but it seemed inappropriate for me to check them.

Check the folder?
