I've got questions!

"So, how did you come to find me in that hallway?" You ask, the possibility of him running into you as soon as you became conscious or arrived there (you're not sure which) seemed improbable to you.

He thinks for a moment before answering. "Intuition." And he gave you a wink before continuing. "I had a feeling there was something important in that corner of the hall, and wouldn't you know it there you were when I arrived! Just the same as..eh..well..not important."

"How do you know I'm not just another intruder like that girl around the corner? Another...'rogue hopper' as you so lovingly call them." You asked, skeptical this was all just chance, but admittedly you knew too little about the Hall to rule anything out of the realm of possibility, especially with portals and monopoly men amongst the many variables.

Thompson gave you a funny look. "One day you'll understand."

You were beginning to think you weren't going to get a clear answer out of him to any of your pressing questions. "Why did you seem so afraid of her? What was she gonna do to us if we stayed?"

"I can't say for certain, but normally when people access the hall they are there for one of two reasons. One is simple travel, there's a few spots in the hall where people often go from one dimension to another, but usually they don't stray too far for fear of losing their own door. Just a quick visit, perhaps to get something that's lacking in their own dimension or see someone important..there's a variety of religions built on the Hall."

"The Hall is really that massive?" You can't imagine getting lost in a hallway, you wonder just how maze-like it really is.

He nods, "Yes. Extremely massive, even I haven't explored all the doors, and I've been here a very, very long time. So then there's a second reason people might be in the Hall..to claim the hall as their own territory. Of course that's nonsense since the hall belongs to all the people involved, but some people want to own all the worlds, or at least the 'land' connecting them all."

"That's what she was there for? She claimed the hall as her own property, willing to kill us to defend it?"

"That's what I'm afraid of, she's been in the hall before and done similar to people I knew..." He shook his head in grief.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"No need to be sorry, it's been a long time yet and they probably would have died of old age by now anyways."

You couldn't think of much more to say, but the village was now in sight, so you decided to leave the interrogation at that.
