I glance back over at the photograph of Brooke. She looks to be a couple of years younger, probably in college. Her blonde hair shimmers in the sun, and she grins proudly at the camera. She is wearing a cheerleading outfit, filling it out quite nicely. Her hand rests against a pom pom on her hip. She looks gorgeous.

I turn and meet her inquisitive gaze. "Uh, I'm a football player, uh, at the local college." I hope she doesn't notice me turning red, because I feel like I'm burning up. I'm a senior in high school, but I figure I should pretend to be closer to her age. "I'm surprised you haven't heard of me, I'm a pretty big star around her."

Brooke raises her eyebrows. "Really? I can't say I... well, I haven't really followed football since I dropped out of college. But I miss it." She smiles wistfully as she looks towards the picture. "I met a guy, years older than me, who could provide me everything a girl should want--lots of nice clothes and money, a nice home--but that meant dropping out, moving away from my family and all my friends to be with him, not that he's ever around. He's always travelling for work..."

I stare at her as she rambles. She stops and blushes. "Sorry, I'm kind of giving the whole life story there... hey, do you want to see my cheerleader outfit?"

I gulp. "What?"

"Well, you're a football player, right?"

"Oh, yeah! Yeah, sure."
