Chapter 3 by Omega98 Omega98

Who's got the power?

Hunter Curze, college studant

"Hunter? Oy mate, you there?" Carl asked.

Hunter shook his head, blinked three times and then regarded his roommate. Carl was from Australia, and the two had bonded quickly over their love of 'nerdy' things. Carl liked Harry Potter, while Hunter prefered Warhammer 40K. Both loved The Song of Ice and Fire, Battlestar Galactica, and the stars Trek and Wars. The two had spent many hours discussing deep and philosophical questions like: If Superman knocked up Lois Lane, would the baby be able to absorb solar energy in the womb giving it superpowers in utero? and where are the bathrooms on the starship Enterprise?

At that moment, he was standing in the middle of his dorm room with a stack of shirts in his hands. He had been packing clothes for his holiday trip; his family had rented a large cottage at a ski resort in the Rockies. He remembered he'd called an Uber to take him to the bus depot and it'd be there in a few minutes. Why he'd called the Uber before he finished packing? It'd get him off his ass and actually pack.

He was a terrible procrastinator.

Images flashed in his mind, images of a galaxy spanning tree and infinite worlds. Echos reverberated in his mind of how he was a new **** God, and how anything he deemed regarding his family members would be made real. Impossible things to be sure. Had he hallucinated the whole thing? Something deep in his bones told him no.

"Uh y-yeah. I'm here. I guess I must have spaced out? How long have I been standing here?"

"Dunno mate." Carl answered "I just turned around and saw you standing there like your lights had switched off. Better hurry up yeah? Uber'll be here pronto."

"Right. Thanks." Hunter said and set about to finish packing while Carl turned his attention back to the game he'd been playing. A minute later, Hunter was still at work when his phone buzzed letting him know his driver had arrived.

"Fuck." He muttered, still not done.

"Too bad you weren't Merlin from Sword in the Stone eh? Just cast a spell and your chores'll do themselves."

Hunter stood up straight. The newfound power at his fingertips could make that a reality. All he had to do was speak or think it. So long as his memory of the tree wasn't just him going crazy. But he had to think, the voice said his powers wouldn't work on him unless they involved another family member. But he could work around that.

"My parents are powerful sorcerers, each descended from long lines of wealthy and powerful sorcerer families."

As he finished speaking a wave moved out from him and rippled across the room and through the walls. From the window he could see it spread as far as the eye could see until it disappeared beyond the horizon. It was then that his eyes went wide and face pale. He'd said that out loud, only now realizing Carl had heard him. Hunter turned slowly to his roommate hoping his friend didn't think he was going mad.

"Aye mate. Mine are working class blokes from Perth. You done or are we gonna keep stating facts?"

What the FUUUUUCK?
