He Accepts

His eyes light up, and an impish smile spreads across his face.

"Yes," he laughs "Those are wise words indeed!"

You feel a rush of relief, his laughter breaking the tension.

"So you will join me?" you ask, hopeful.

"Yes, I think I will. Together we can find out if you are indeed the rising tide, or simply a passing wave."

He stands from his chair, turning his back to you, and raising his right hand. He flexes his fingers, and a tiny flame appears, dancing between them.

"And besides, I happen to like my fingers."
