How do things go from here?

Grabbing a Few Missions, Some New Info... and Something Else

Yuri and Thelsia made their way back to the guild building proper. Now that he had an official Adventurer ID, Yuri wanted to at least get a few missions and jobs out of the way so he could actually have the currency of this world in his hands, he would probably need to get a coin purse or side pouch to hold his money. True to her word, Thelsia was sticking close to Yuri, maybe a bit too close for Yuri's comfort. Selvina, the Guild Master, stayed back to take part in a ritual for confirming and observing pregnancy at the temple, she and Yuri suspected they would perform the ritual a few additional times out of disbelief.

Yuri and Thelsia take about half an hour to get back to the guild building proper, the local population and hour meant the complex was actually pretty barren in regards to people when they got there, only a receptionist that appeared to be the same sexy orc that had first greeted him seemed to really be there, said receptionist was watching Yuri's movements with thirsty eyes, he supposed he would have to fuck her (and possibly knock her up) before that toned down to a more manageable level. Yuri moved over to the mission board, Thelsia sat down at a table near the board to keep an eye on Yuri without drawing too much attention.

Looking over the board, Yuri could see each request had a letter grading in all four corners to make sure that anyone could see the estimated challenge rating/difficulty of the request. The board was practically covered in requests rated E and lower, almost everything rated D and above was basically under the lower-ranked job, this meant you really had to hunt around on the board for higher-ranked requests. Since Yuri was rated a C-Ranker due to his test results, he figured he should probably grab a C-ranked job. In addition, the requests were each stamped in different colors, part of the ranking system also involved a rainbow coding within each letter grade, and Yuri had been told he was color-coded to green in addition to being a C-Rank. He decided to grab a few different missions, he figured if he took care of several at once it would be less hassle. The flyers on the board he grabbed were two Indigo C-Rank jobs, a blue C-Rank, and a green C-Rank. He brought them over to Thelsia, she was his senior in the guild and she could at least tell him her thoughts on the missions he had picked out.

"Alright," Thelsia looking over the options Yuri brought her, "Two resource gathering jobs, always good regardless of your rank; a monster extermination quest, always good to get some combat experience; and a lost item request, not many people take on these sort of tasks, good on you for taking the initiative."

Yuri and Thelsia made their way out to take care of the missions, Thelsia slightly fantasizing about what she would do with Yuri once the two were properly alone. The two of them headed to the wilderness just outside of town, the field Yuri originally showed up in. On his way out with Thelsia, Yuri learned just how lucky he had been when he arrived. As they approached the field from the town's gate, Yuri decided to have a discussion with Thelsia on the way to where they needed to go.

"So, when I ended up in this world, I was in the field outside of town," said Yuri, "it took me around a half an hour to get to the town."

"And you weren't attacked during that time," inquired Thelsia with surprise, "that is highly irregular. There are a number of potentially dangerous creatures in that general area, it is highly unusual for the area to be devoid of danger for such an extended period of time."

"Well, I did just sort of pop into this world when I opened a bonus item that came with a pre-purchased new book."

"I'm sorry, what?"

"Okay, so in the world I come from, we have the ability to mass-produce items like books, which means most texts are actually pretty inexpensive, we even have developed the technology to produce non-physical copies of almost any given text. Anyway, an incentive that some publishing institution will make use of is to order the product before it is released, this is often referred to as pre-ordering or pre-purchasing a product, and often as a means of getting extra income from the pre-orders these institutions will also add in additional items that allow them to increase the price, and as an incentive to pre-order they will bill the whole set as an exclusive deal that will not allow you to get the additional items any other commercial way, legally. If a product or series is particularly popular, you will often find cases of cheap imitation products, or even products that are stated to be official merchandise but actually really are not, and often that can get you into legal trouble if you buy, sell, or just have it within your property for whatever reason."

"Okay, yikes. How do you manage to mass produce texts? What do you mean by 'non-physical copies'?

"An invention called the printing press ages ago made mass production of texts possible, I don't know all the details, but was an invitation that made the established clergy very unhappy at the time, mostly because the masses were mostly uneducated and it was to their benefit that the populous remained ignorant. As for non-physical texts, I don't think I should share what that just yet."

"Well, that's just not right, what can you tell me about this device that is able to 'print' texts?"

"Missions first, personal education after the jobs are all done. Also, I don't know how all that could affect this world, seeing there is magic in this world but lacking in the one I came from."

"Fair enough. The first thing on the list is Faerie Clover."

"I noticed it didn't have an image for that on the form."

"It's just a type of clover that grows in or near a faerie ring."

"I noticed the Spin-horn Rabbit's description talked about them liking Faerie Clover, so figured two missions for the price of one."

"Wait, huh," Thelsia pulled the flyer for the monster-slaying quest and quest and read through the text again quickly, "I honestly didn't notice that before, I probably would have taken up missions like this if I been aware of things like this sooner. Although to be fair, I don't really give these sorts of missions much mind, I just pick some jobs that sound easy so I can take care of enough of a quota to keep my license in circulation."

"Are we close to our first destination?"

Thelsia took a quick look at her card then the flyer for collecting the clover before answering, "We should be coming up on it 40 or so minutes outside of town, we just left the town 12 or so minutes ago, so we have just a little under a half hour before we reach our first destination."

Yuri took a quick look around as they both marched through the field before saying, "I think this is about where I was dropped into this world, we could probably check for residual dimensional magics on our way back."

Thelsia blinked a bit in surprise before saying, "That kind of magic is very advanced, it's a common belief in magic theory that Dimension magic is an advanced form of Space magic. So, theoretically, someone with an aptitude for Space magic could more easily learn Dimension magic."

Yuri did full stop for a moment, prompting Theslia to look back at him a few feet after she realized he had stopped moving, before he said, "When I got a look at my aptitudes, it said I have an aptitude for Space magic. Of course, it said I have an aptitude for Water magic and a few other magicks too."

"It's very rare for someone to have more than 2 magical affinities, last time I checked, and I was informed that you had a few more types of magic than what you displayed during the assessment, we should probably discuss the rest of this in private, you never who or what is watching." With that, the two of them returned to their pace, about 9 minutes later they came to a faerie ring big enough for the two of them to stand side by side with the entire ring being made up of clovers with 4 leaves, 7 leaves, and 10 leaves.

"Okay, that's new," said Yuri with surprise, "do they usually get this big and have clovers with 4 or more leaves?"

"No, this is actually pretty rare," said Thelsia, "and the ring usually isn't composed primarily of clover." The moment she finished her sentence a dozen rabbit-like creatures the size of a dachshund with drill-shaped horns hopped into the area.

"Well, at least their form showed an image," said Yuri, "I just didn't expect them to so big."

"Get ready," said Thelisa as she took defensive staff, "it's been a while since I saw this many at once."

Yuri raised a wall of stone twice the height of the rabbits between the two of them and the monsters, formed a spear out of stone from the ground in front of him then turned the head into a hardened diamond, and prepared to summon a field of spears to **** the monsters.
