Grab her mate and run

Freya wasn't about to abandon her mate to the horde, but she wasn't going to stand there and die either. Turning she bolted toward her mate, her body burning with pain.

Her mate stood stoically waiting for the end he knew was coming, and was surprised when she threw him over her shoulder. Her enhanced strength made his large frame manageable, as she quickly slipped into the apartment where they had met.

Slamming the door shut, she flipped the lock. She could hear them pounding down the hall toward them. There wasn't going to be enough time to block the door, so she slid the dead bolt, and went for the window.

The window, thankful was already open, but she had to shove her mate through, before climbing after him. Thankfully he could still move of his own volition, even if he was nearly crippled from the damage he had sustained.

The horde slammed into the door, multitudes of hands beating at its wooden surface, trying desperately to get through to their prey. Sliding the window down to further detour them, she looked up, then down the fire escape.
