Go with the nurse

You and Andrea had been talking for a few weeks, after being introduced by a work friend that went to the same university as her. While you knew that it hadn’t been enough time to be sure of anything, you were liking what you knew about her so far. Spending a week vacation with her wasn’t something you could possibly complain about, so you took your shot.

You called her up as soon as you at least sounded awake and sober. “Andrea? Hi, this is Jack, how are you?” you began.

“Well, it’s been alright. The job search is exhausting. I ended this internship and expected to be having job offers practically thrown in my face, but I guess I should’ve known better,” Andrea ranted on. “How about you? Is everything alright?”

“Well, I guess things are alright,” you started. “Actually not really. I was talking to Mike last night, and I realized that shit’s getting to me. I’m not doing too great and need to disconnect for a bit.” You stopped and gathered your thoughts. You weren’t used to asking for help, and you were afraid you wouldn’t unless you pulled yourself together. “I just called to ask if you wanted to get away for a week. Get to know each other a little better. It sounds like we could both use a reset.”

You immediately started to overthink what you’d said. Sure, it could’ve gone much worse, but Jesus, it sounded like you were a side character on a poorly written TV show.

Luckily, Andrea didn’t seem to care. After a moment’s thought, she replied “Screw it, I’m down. I don’t know if you have any other ideas, but I actually got an all expenses paid trip to Greenport from some lottery I must’ve signed up for while I was attending university. I got a message the other day saying it was expiring soon, so why not use it now?”

Thank god you called Andrea. While you had never been to Greenport, you’d heard it was a nice coastal city but was extremely expensive. This might be a once in a lifetime opportunity. That said, there were still other places you might want to consider.

“So Jack, Greenport?”
