Go with her

Giving Monica your most charming smile, you accompany her out the cottage door and down the path.

"Like I said, most of these are the senior women teachers," she says, gesturing to the other cottages. They're well hidden by landscaping along the curving path, giving an illusion of privacy. "Your neighbours are the other two men, although their names escape me for the moment. I'm bad with names unless I've actually met someone."

"Me too," you smile.

"Really? You look more like the type who remembers everything you hear," she grins. "Now here is where Donna and Lorri live. Sorry, Donna Considine and Lorri McKay. Donna teaches Math and coaches soccer. Lorri teaches Physics and Chemistry. Oh hey, there's Donna right now."

You look where she points and see an older woman crouching beside a sleek black Japanese racing motorcycle. She's in her mid-forties, with short black hair streaked with grey, and firm muscular legs evident as she squats.

"Hey Donna, I've got one of the new teachers here. Darnell Sharp, Donna Considine."

The older woman stands up and offers a strong hand in greeting.

"Welcome to Pink Rose," she says. "I see you quickly found the prettiest teacher on campus to show you around. As you can see, I'm one of the older of the old bats on faculty."

"Donna has been teaching here for, like 20 years," Monica says.

"This will be my twentieth year coming up. I came here after a few years of substitute teaching in the public system. The place is kind of it's own little world. And not always in a good way." When you look a question at her she continues. "I'm not sure that putting a bunch of wealthy young women, most of them spoiled, together in relative isolation is a good thing. When I started here things weren't too bad, but as time has passed it seems that standards have slipped."

"So you're not happy with hiring men," you say.

"I didn't say that Mr. Sharp. It may well be a very good thing. Restoring the position of Dean of Students could be a very positive step, and putting an ex-Marine in the job might scare the daylights out of some of the troublemakers," she pauses then smiles impishly. "Although it might have others getting into trouble just to get in his office. Kyle Hawkfeather's name if nothing else has preceded him. I'm sure some girls are expecting a noble savage and letting their imaginations run wild."

"I met him earlier," Monica says. "He's blonde and doesn't look at all Indian." You see a faint blush on her skin as she speaks.

"Well that will disappoint some of them," Donna laughs. "Is he a strapping figure of a man? I can see by your face that he is. Well that will have the maidens' hearts aflutter. Nice to meet you Mr. Sharp. We shall have to have tea some time, so we can chat further and you can meet my roommate. Enjoy your tour. You have appropriated the most charming guide on campus."
