Go to Carla's party.

You playback the message from Carla and can't help but laugh. Some of the things she does sometimes just make you want to crack up. You have no doubt that Katherine would be furious if she found out Carla had called you. That in its self could be funny. You decide to give the party at Dave's a miss and begin getting ready for Carla's. The football guys have a party pretty much every day anyway. Probably why they haven't been doing so well lately.

After spending a few minutes getting ready, you grab the keys to your four-wheel drive and leave the house. It doesn't take long for you to reach Carla's. She lives only a dozen or so streets away. You have to park a little way from her house due to the number of cars lining both sides of the street. As you get closer, you can make out the sounds of Nelly coming from the inside of the house. You ring the doorbell and Carla answers it shortly afterwards. "Hi, there! You must have got my message. I'm so glad you could make it."
"Hi, Carla. Yeah, I just checked my answering machine about half an hour ago. Katherine didn't catch you ringing me, did she?" you reply as she beacons you inside her house.
"No, she didn't luckily. You mustn't tell her I called you either. I think she quite fancies you, but she'd never admit it to me," she tells you like you're a fellow conspirator.
You laugh at her and tell her, "I promise I won't tell her. Honestly Carla."
"Thanks. Look, I have to dash. More people have just arrived. Help yourself to drinks from the fridge and I think you'll find Katherine out the back garden." With that, she hurries off.

The party is going off pretty hard and you see a number of your friends from school. However, you are mainly searching the crowd looking for Katherine. Your search leads you to the kitchen, where you stop briefly to grab a Coke before heading through the rear door into Carla backyard. The garden is quite spacious with people either sitting in groups talking or else mingling on the back lawn. This group has positioned themselves near a trestle table set up with a wide array of party snacks. Amongst these people you finally see Katherine chatting with a guy from school.

Upon seeing you, however, she quickly brushes off the guy and walks towards you. "Hey there, I didn't know you were going to be here. I wasn't even sure that you knew about Carla's pre-dance get together. It was only in the last day or two she decided to have it," she tells you excitedly, her words racing a mile a minute.
"Hey slow down Kat. No need to get so excited. Umm one of my friends told me about it in school today and I thought I might drop in before the dance tonight. None of my friends was doing anything beforehand and I guessed it might be fun," you tell her trying to cover for Carla calling you.
It seems to have worked as Katherine continues blithely, "Ah cool. How are you getting to the dance?"
"My jeep is parked a little way down the street," you say answering her question.
"Do you mind if I get a lift to the dance with you?"
"Sure that's no problem. There's plenty of room with me."
"Thanks. Are you going to stay here a while? The music at the dance could be pretty loud so we might not get a chance to talk much later. Then again if you wanted to leave right away, you and I could have our photos taken together before the lines get too long. That is if you want your photo taken with me of course. What do you think?"
