Go for the straight

You remember last hand, you would have gotten your flush if you went for it. So, you try to go for the straight this time. Even before you can look at your card, Lin lays her hand down, quietly announcing “three jacks.”

“Another three of a kind?” Claire exclaims. “All I have are a pair of fours.” Claire looks expectantly at your hand.

You turn over the four cards from your straight, then hoping to complete it, or at least draw a pair, you flip over the last card. A queen. That makes your hand worthless.

“Ah hah!” Claire shouts triumphantly. “We win again!” She gestures for you to lose your pants.

You mutter under your breath about how unfair this game is, stand up, and slide your pants down, revealing your white, cotton briefs. Claire is watching closely, while you see Lin trying to steal glances without being obvious.

“One more until we win,” Claire states with glee.
