Chapter 16 by cphi cphi

What's next?

Getting a shower while the boys catch up.

Beth headed upstairs after a few minutes listening to the brothers talk shit and reminisce. She wanted a shower. The hot steam and water helped pull some off the booze out of her brain, leaving her a little jelly-legged when she stepped into the bedroom to get dressed. While she was drying off, she looked with some annoyance at Brian's slacks, shirt and blazer dropped carelessly onto the floor by the bed. She sighed, pulling on her panties before kneeling down to pick up his clothes. When she picked up the shirt, however, she paused. There was something on the collar, like a pinkish smear...
Lipstick?
She pulled the shirt close to her face, and despite time and the strong smell of Brian, there was also, co-mingled, the scent of perfume, and expensive perfume, she suspected. What the hell? She wondered what lipsticked lady was getting close enough to Brian to get it on his shirt, and getting her perfume on him at a schmooze event for a marketing firm?
The buzzing of Brian's cell from the pocket made her drop the shirt. It was two short buzzes: a text message. Not for a second did Beth hesitate before fishing the phone out of his pocket and swiping the home screen.

???: Hey forgot to text you my number
???: I had fun tonight. I'm excited to be working together

???: ;)

The message was definitely not something to put her in a good mood. It put the perfume and lipstick into context.
He was probably sweet talking a potential client for the firm. Beth knew that men in the marketing and ad industry used image and charisma to sell their services. She felt her face burn with anger and jealousy regardless. Who does this bitch think she is? She tried to calm down. She put the phone away and got dressed in a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. When she came down the stairs, the brothers were laughing about some story Kyle was telling.
"Hey, babe..." Beth called out from the bottom of the stairs. "I'm going to bed." She didn't feel like keeping them company with her jealousy and anger bubbling around in her brain. Brian popped off the couch to come over and give her a kiss goodnight. "Have a good night, baby. I'll be up in a little while, we're just going to hang for a bit." He moved in to kiss her, and she turned slightly, taking the kiss on her cheek instead.
"That's fine." She didn't want to give away anything, but she was too annoyed to be fully affectionate either. He gave her an odd look, but then just gave her a squeeze before heading back to the living room.
