Chapter 129
by bobbobbobthethir
What do you do?
Get Dominic to Sort Out the Trouble
You head over to Dominic’s room to get his help. His door is already open when you get there, and you see Lucy sitting on one of the couches, chatting with him. She seems to be flirting with him, batting her lashes and leaning in to him, but Dom diplomatically keeps his distance, giving her a friendly-but-not-that-friendly smile. No wonder the door’s open, you think to yourself.
“Hey Alex, come to talk?” he says, seeming to perk up a bit at your presence.
“It’s a bit of a sensitive thing,” you say, glancing at Lucy.
“No worries, Lucy and I were just wrapping up,” he says, giving her a quick wave good-bye, a sure end to their conversation.
She reluctantly gets up from the couch and heads out the door, glancing at you wonderingly. You keep your face even, not betraying anything. You’re not even sure if coming here was the right decision; you certainly wouldn’t want word of Griffin and Rachel fighting to get out if you can help it.
“So, everything good with you?” Dominic asks, casually closing the door as you take Lucy’s spot on the couch.
“Yeah, I’m doing fine,” you respond. “It’s about Griffin and Rachel, actually. I heard them screaming from the corridors, and I didn’t mean to listen in, but they were loud… and the fight, it sounded serious, but I don’t know...”
You briefly pause, feeling awkward about the whole situation, wondering whether you should continue. Dominic gives you an understanding smile and gets up from his seat, exhaling as he does so.
“You’re concerned about them, because they’re your friends,” he says, pacing lightly around the room. “But you’re not sure that coming here was the right thing to do.” He takes your momentary silence as confirmation, and continues on. “I understand and respect Griffin and Rachel’s privacy. I’ve helped out a number of troubled couples in my tenure as a RA here in East Hall, so don’t worry, I can help handle things with the appropriate sensitivity. I don’t have to report anything to the administration, not unless there’s something truly serious going on. Now, I get it if you’re not able to say any more, but if you’re willing to share some...”
He lets his words hang in the air. You’re grateful for the little speech that he gave. Somehow, it’s reassuring, knowing that Dominic should be capable of handling this problem.
You quickly describe the fight you overheard, leaving out the detail of you eavesdropping on them, and Dominic nods along until you’re finished with your short tale.
“Thanks for telling me,” he says, reaching for the door. “You said they were in Rachel’s room, right?”
“That’s right,” you say, getting up and following him.
“I’ll do my best to help both of them out,” he says, and then when he notices that you’re still following him down the corridor, he continues: “Don’t worry about coming with me—people often find it intimidating when a whole crew shows up at the door.”
He gives an apologetic smile and a shrug, and you take the hint. By passing this off to Dominic, you have to trust that the RA will be able to handle this. After all, it’s the reason why you went to him, right?
“Thanks, Dom,” you say, peeling off to return to your room.
“It’s only my job,” he says with a smile.
