You are in the backyard of a 1950's-style farmhouse. A waist-high chain-link fence keeps the forest at bay and you can see a door leading into the house's kitchen. The file has been running as a background process on the server since 1979, never taking too many resources and never totally stopping. It looks like part of the operating system, and a number of key processes tap into it, but nobody has any idea what it does. It even regenerates itself when deleted, and has jumped the gap from one generation of servers to the next. You've been given the job of figuring it out, but you're out of time so the only way to do that is to run it.
