First day of school.

It is the first day of senior year for John. He reluctantly awakens and eats breakfast silently. He doesn't even talk to his mother or his sister Megan, who is 20 years old and enrolled in a nearby college. He seems distant and far away from everyone.

As John walks out of the door to get on the bus, he hardly mutters a good-bye to his family. He takes a seat near the window and simply stares outside, ignoring the attempts of communication by his other classmates.

The same thing happens throughout the rest of the school day. He barely makes an attempt to communicate. The other students openly ridicule him for being "that silent kid who got kidnapped". They would make jokes and the rest of the students would burst out into laughter. John hardly seems interested in what they have to say, though.

He stays after school to help work on the school play, which he had often helped with during his other years in high school. He helps out slightly, but he barely talks to anyone. Soon, most of the students depart and only John and another senior, Nicole, are left to work on the play.

"What's wrong, John? You seem so...distant this year," Nicole says.

"I don't know," he replies. He then stares into her green eyes with his powerfully piercing eyes. Suddenly, a weird feeling comes over Nicole.
