Chapter 9 by Johnrocker Johnrocker

What's next?

First bit of dialogue in months

Winter and Mark stood meters away from each other, a cold and distant greeting was expected with how things were with them right now.

As he waited for Winter to finish up with the printer, he knew it was either stand in silence or break the ice. It would have been easier to do the former but avoiding the awkwardness, Mark spoke up.

“Soo... are you going to the football game this Friday?” he asked her.

Winter who had just finished printing out her last sheet, turned again to face him. “Yeah I am actually. I’m going to watch Ross play.”

Mark nodded, aware that she had been seeing one of the senior college footballers in the last month or so. Nothing official but they had a little thing going, Mark didn’t know how serious it really was.

“Ahh that’s cool, should be a good night,” he said.

Taking all of her printed out sheets, Winter made her way to the door, giving Mark access to the printer. “How are you and Tiffany going?” she asked him before leaving.

“Yeah things are going alright I guess,” he said, really not wanting to sound like he was bragging about his relationship.

“Good to hear. Anyways, I better run, really busy this afternoon,” she told him while at the door.

“Yeah all good, might see you at the game,” he said. Winter just responded by forcing a smile on her face before leaving the library.

The whole scenario had Mark shaking his head once he was finally alone in the room. He didn’t know why he said that last thing before she left, worrying that it may send some sort of mixed message.

Mark tried to shake it off, he couldn’t let that distract him anymore that it already had.

Later that night...
