Fight for the Crown

“I’ll do it.”

Jenna, who is seated across from you, looks confused. “You’ll do what princess?” Realizing you had just spoken out loud, you blush and look out the door. The world outside passed by, a blur of stone, faces, and houses.

“I’ve decided to take my rightful place... as my father’s heir.” It sounds odd, speaking it out loud. Before you had never really though about succession. Your ice blue eyes shifted to meet hers. The poor girl looked rather startled. “It’s only right... I’m my father’s only true child.”

“But... a daughter cannot...” She stammered. “Princess it is foolhardy to even think that the council would allow something like that.” Her words hurt. “I hope I haven’t spoken out of line.” Part of you wanted to be angry with her...but you knew she meant well.

“I don’t care about those old men... There must be some way... Some old law.... something..... “ You tried to think of something you could do. Suddenly it came to you. Only one person in the entire kingdom would know of a way she could become Queen. “Jenna, tell the drive to stop. There’s somewhere we need to go first.”

“Stop? Where are we going?”

“We’re going to see the Wizard Sebith. He’ll know if there’s something we can do.” Or at least you hopped that there was something, anything that he could do to help you. Jenna, looked even worse than when you’de told her your plans.

“Seb.. Sebith? Princess are you feeling well? We cannot simply go and see him! He’s far to dangerous!” She stammered and sputtered. “They say he eats people’s souls.... devours maidens... bathes in the blood of children.” She shook her head. “And he always demands a high price for anything he does....”

“Don’t believe everything you heat Jenna... Bathes in the blood of children...” You rolled your eyes. Jenna was so naive, or at least you hoped so. “Just tell the driver we have somewhere to stop first.”

"I wish you would reconsider Princess....."
