Feeling Small

After class was over I headed out into the hallway and searched around for a bit. Sure enough I saw him. He was walking away but I wasn’t going to let him escape. I strode over to him and casually pushed him into a locker.

“What the hell was that in there?” I asked accusingly.

Oliver looked up at me with a blank expression. He didn’t seem too worried that I was about to kick his ass.

“What’s the matter nerd? Answer me!”

It was at that moment a strong arm wrapped around my shoulder. I looked over to see a tall girl with shoulder length blonde hair and a thick build. Thick as in she had a good bit of muscle. It was Samantha Blum, the captain of the girls wrestling team.

“Whatcha guys doing?” she asked cheerily.

I had no idea why she was butting in. I’d never really talked to her before and as far I could tell neither had Oliver.

“I just have some business with the pipsqueak here.” I said. “You can go and mind your own business.”

As soon as the words left my mouth I felt myself being pushed against a locker, much like I had just done to Oliver.

“Well I can’t just stand by and watch such a cutie get bullied. I’m going to have to ask you to leave the ‘pipsqueak’ alone.” Samantha said threateningly.

“Cutie? That ner-!?”

I was cut off as she turned me around and twisted my arm around my back. She just held me there as Oliver walked up calmly.

“Thanks Sam, he’s been bothering me for a while now. It’s good to be friends with someone as strong as you.” he said.

Sam’s face turned a light shade of red at his praise. Seriously?! She was blushing to this guy?! As if to drive home said strength she pushed me harder against the locker.

“A while huh? You think just because you’re bigger than Ollie you can bully him?”

“Why do you suddenly care?!” I yelled, only to be slammed into the locker once again.

“Because that’s just how it is.” Oliver said. “You think you’re such a big man right? So charming and handsome, everything going your way.”

I gave him a sidelong glare as I was held. He finally decided to speak up, and his arrogant tone was pissing me off.

“Sam, let him go.”

“Huh? Okay Ollie!”

I was then released from the grip of the wrestler girl. As I turned to face Oliver I saw that he had already walked up to me.

“You’re doing something aren’t you?” I asked angrily.

“Maybe, or maybe this is just how things are.” Oliver responded.

“What the hell does that mean? If you don’t explain things I’m gonna kick your ass!”

“What’s the matter? Mad that you’re not on top of the world anymore? Not such a big fish anymore?”

“I’ll show you big!”

I stepped toward him, forgetting about the muscular girl behind me. I was just about to grab him by the shirt but suddenly the world around me felt different. It was like a weird sensation of being moved. I looked around and focused on the lockers. The familiar blue metal was still there, only now it stretched upward for what seemed like forever. I shook my head in confusion and then looked behind me, and what I saw was a white wall that transitioned to green further up. I thought it looked a little familiar and then I looked up even more. I saw a massive flesh colored pillar stretching up into what seemed like a huge pair of shorts. It only took about a second to realize that the pillar was a leg and stepped back in shock. That meant the wall in front of me was actually a shoe! I was stunned until a gigantic voice filled my ears.

“I’m gonna be late to class...”

I recognized the booming voice and realized who it belonged to. It was Sam! This giant was Sam! Craning my back I gazed upward and could make out her blonde hair in the distance. I looked behind me and saw Oliver was still there, looking up as well.

“What the fuck is happening?!” I yelled at him.

“Not so big now, huh?” was all he said.

“Dude, what are you-!?”

I felt the presence of something moving behind me and turned to see the gargantuan shoe rising up into the air. The building sized foot moved toward me as Sam began taking a step forward. I looked back toward Oliver in a panic but he was still just standing there. My legs acted on instinct and I took off running. The shadow of Sam’s shoe covered me and I looked up to see the rapidly approaching sole. My whole world became blackness as it came down and crushed me into the ground, and then the darkness disappeared. I was suddenly back in the halls of the school.

“You okay there?” the voice of Oliver asked.

He was standing in the same spot as before but I was focused on the fact that I had just been crushed. I wasn’t in pain but the terror I felt lingered. Gripping my chest I leaned against a locker to catch my breath. Sam was looking at the ground curiously.

“Huh...I think I stepped on something.” she said as she lifted her sneaker to look at the bottom.

I didn’t try to get a look at it. I was more preoccupied with the shock of seeing the girl who just squashed me casually looking for my remains. She didn’t seem to even notice that me and Oliver had disappeared. I looked over and he just shrugged his shoulders at me. I might have asked him once again to explain things but I was more worried about what might happen next...
