Examine the bacterial spores

         Deciding that she didn't want to get dirty or grossed out by dissecting some unknown alien creature, Mai opted to do the more mundane and boring work of examining spores, bacteria, and other micro-organisms. The actual work required, however boring, was much more easier than having to work on anamalia species. A few simple tests, examing some DNA, and classifying the bacteria was all that was really required of her. Later on, some senior officers would examine its life cycle, and metabolic pathways of the bacteria.

           Walking towards the section of the science department devoted to bacteria, Mai examined some of the sealed off vials to see where some of the unknown bacteria was found. She saw some that were found under rocks, some that were airborne, and most seemed pretty boring to her till she found an interesting one. Holding the vial up to the light, Mai read that the bacteria was found in the body of another alien organism and seemed to have some sort of symbiotic relationship with it.

          "Now this is interesting," Mai said after reading the inscription. But suddenly her eyes went to the seal at the top which was opened. Whoever was on the away mission failed to check if the vial and its seal were working properly. Apparently, when Mia picked up the vial and read the inscription, some of the bacteria had become airborne. Mai quickly put the vial in a containment vesicle. 

           Grabbing a scanner, Mai examined the air in the room for any airborne bacteria. The test came out negative, and Mai breathed a sigh of relief. Unknown to Mai however, was that the bacteria was no longer airborne. In fact, the bacteria died if it was without a host in an oxygen filled environment. Some of the bacteria however, did land on Mai's skin and had entered her system.

             A few mintues later, after reporting the event, Mai returned to her station and began examining other bacteria. Soon, she felt a hot flush go through her body.
