Chapter 12
by Spindizzy
What does Dr Vicky have to say?
Everything seems normal
"There that wasn't so bad was it Sam?," the doctor says inviting you to sit opposite her while she pulls up your file on her screen "So, the good news is everything seems normal. From a medical standpoint, you are a healthy young woman."
"Oh, um great, I guess?" You say still not sure how you feel about that
"Yeah, kind of a good news-bad news situation for you," she acknowledges with a wry smile "I can't imagine what you must be going through right now. I'm not a therapist but I'm here to help and answer any questions you might have."
You nod appreciating her taking the time to listen to you.
"You say I'm healthy down there," you start a little hesitantly "does that mean I can... get pregnant? Uh, not that I'm planning on... you know, but in theory?"
"In theory yes," she confirms "you certainly can. In fact, if you have unprotected sex there's a good chance you will. I strongly recommended thinking about what kind of contraception you want to use before you become sexually active."
"Okay, but I'm not... I'm mean I'm not gay." You say regretting this whole line of inquiry "I don't want that with a guy..."
"Officially I'm supposed to say that abstinence is a fine and worthwhile thing" she counters "but speaking from experience there's a technical term for women who insist they don't need birth control, we call them mothers."
You give a noncommittal shrug, you really don't intend to let anyone with a penis anywhere near you new parts but it couldn't hurt to be careful.
"Never mind about the birds and the bees," you try to change the subject "What else do I need to know?"
"Hmm, let's see," she looks over your file "It looks like you should expect to get your period in a couple of weeks but after everything your body has been through I wouldn't be surprised if things are a little irregular in that department. Best to pick up some pads or tampons sooner rather than later."
You make a face at the prospect of having to deal with that every month for the foreseeable future.
"Yeah, it's not my favourite thing either" she agrees with your unspoken complaint "but you get used to it. And if you find it gets too bad be sure to call me, there are things we can do to help."
"Fine," you sigh resigned to that particular part of your fate "was there anything else? I skipped lunch and I'm kind of hungry."
"No I think that was everything..." checks her notes "We should have the results from the swabs I took back in a few days but I don't expect to find anything bad. I'll be in touch to let you know either way and remember, my door is always open."
You thank her and she hands you a "goodie bag" full of educational booklets and some free samples of things like intimate wipes and tampons, there's even a packet of condoms in there, much to your embarrassment.
With a final reassurance that you'll stay in touch, you leave the office and go in search of some food.
Where now?
