Chapter 4 by takacube takacube

perhaps your wife's younger sister Angela or your ex-girlfriend Rachel - or someone older?

Emily Proctor, your nephew's girlfriend

"This can't be real..." you whispered.

3 days ago, you awoke in the hospital to find yourself being told by the doctors hovering around you that the operation had been a success, one that was done on an emergency basis, and saved both your life as well as your wife, Pamela. The last thing you remembered was that you two had met at the coffee shop across from the school and had decided to walk home together. A loud bang, the sound of screeching tires, and when you looked backwards, the sight of a big truck coming straight at you two was the last thing you remembered...

Dr. Kerry was the one who broke the news to you: You had actually died, the damage to your original body was such that you were basically meat and bones when you arrived. It was by the sheerest luck that you were clinically still alive. Pamela was the same.

His colleague, Saunders, took over and explained the simple fact that there was an option to save you two, as the car involved in the accident that led the truck to veer off the road and into you was driven by a woman with her younger sister. The driver's head slammed into the steering wheel while her sister's head slammed into the dashboard moments before the airbag inflated. How either had come out relatively stable was a miracle in themselves with the one small caveat of brain-****. Nasty business this was, he commented.

You nodded slowly at that.

In short order, Kerry continued, the decision was made by the hospital to greenlight the experimental operation the two of them had put together, sort of bad 80s sci-fi involving cutting a portion of your brain and implanting it into the viable donor body. It wasn't sure to take but the fact that 4 people were basically dead anyway, the chance to save at least 2 would be enough for most to overlook the serious ethical problems that arose from it.

After the shock wore off that you were now going to be this person for the rest of your life, your old body having been declared deceased and released to your family for burial, you asked where Pam was. The two doctors mentioned that Pamela had been awake the day before you and had asked to see you as well. After getting you to sign the NDA form and explaining why it made sense to keep your mouth shut about this procedure, they promised to move you into the same room as she was in.

"This is so fucking weird..." you whispered again as you glanced at your reflection in the mirror.

Author's Note: This is an homage to a cyoa-type game, Emilie Finds a Way. It's a fun "game", some would say visual novel, that serves as the basis for this thread. Please check it out!

What's up with your wife?
