Chapter 6 by rabbitjack rabbitjack

First night of the War?

Elsewhere: A Church

"What do you mean, there's no sign of a battle?" A cold voice demanded, richly reverberating in an equally cold chapel. A cloaked slender woman hunched her shoulders miserably as he continued. "I have extensive knowledge of the one in question. Every battle he takes part in results in immense devastation of the surrounding terrain. I doubt that he could restrain himself even if he wanted to. Not only that, but he's more than a match for any three Servants out there today. Yet you say that he's dead and gone, and there's no trace of even how such a thing could happen!? Do I need to teach you another lesson?"

The purple-clad woman folded her arms across her abdomen defensively and mutely shook her head, then answered softly. "My familiar flew over the castle. It was pristine and untouched. When I went to investigate further, constructs made of white wire activated and destroyed my spy. It was not intended for combat after all, and..." "Yes yes." She was interrupted impatiently, the twisted man turning his back on her dismissively. Secretly the sight made her blood boil, but she dared not act against him. Not yet. His blatant **** of his position left him with more than enough command seals to destroy her utterly. She could almost admire such a betrayal, if it wasn't directed directly at her.

The priest continued thoughtfully to himself, clearly troubled. "The Einzbern castle wasn't anything special before... What kind of monstrous Servant could destroy Gilgamesh without even giving him a chance to fight back!?"

It was a question that would require investigation before he revealed his hand any further. He had already lost one of his most important pieces to carelessness, though reigning in the self-determined Servant had always been a risky proposition. He was really just left with his own formidable skills, the secrecy and power that came with his position as Administrator, and...

"Assassin. Rejoice. You have now become much more important in my plans. I'll be watching your progress most carefully. For now, go clean up the children we'd been using to sustain Gilgamesh. When you're done, go hunt down the homeless and other dregs of the city. Take whatever power you can from them, but do not risk detection. You're too weak to survive a mistake like that. Understood?"

Well. There was only one answer that would be acceptable.

"Yes, Master."
